Upholstery time. Opinions wanted

I am getting ready to order Today’s Ultrasuede HP. It’s ‘Alacantara’ but not made in Italy. Point is it’s the same quality material,it’s just from it’s originators in Japan.
Originally I was gaining to go black with houndstooth inserts. Classic look and a prudent bet.
After seeing red FD seats it got me thinking: Red with houndstooth would really pop and would look good with the oranges and ambers of the dash and would have a mid century look to it. But I’m not sure if it would be too overpowering against the light blue paint.
I’m leaning into purple with the houndstooth inserts. It goes well with the blue paint and would match the anodized purple under the hood (alternator and fuel regulator) Purple would add dimension and personality over the blackness of my interior.
Purple would be striking, Red would be a riot and black would be safe.

Personally I feel as though the seats would look the best in black with the houndstooth insert. Not flashy, but clean, subtle, and the houndstooth will give it a super nice retro vibe! I personally feel that the other two upholstery colors would clash too much with the beautiful blue paint.

My opinion would be something more understated and original looking. Your build is amazing and I would let all your work on the mechanicals shine instead of the interior.

I think black with houndstooth for seats, maybe run a period correct steering wheel, I am biased to the Momo Prototipo.

I am going to order the Racing beat kit, with black vinyl and the inside panels in the dark grey tweed.

i think black too, although if there was a darker red that might work. if you do red seats they will be too flashy. i know black is the dull choice, but its got the houndstooth, and then people will look past the seals and see the rest of the car

Very valid points. the interesting bit is when asking non car enthusiasts, the lean to purple. the JDM bros lean red. As mentioned, black is really practical. It would likely hide imperfections of the upholstery job as well.

Agreed. Keep is simple, subtle, and stylish, instead of a mix of colors that don't compliment each other.

I like the houndstooth idea! I think black would sit best with the color of your car. Maybe use some contrasting orange/amber stitching?

Black with those inserts will rock the interior. The other colors are flashy and clashy.

i'm actually quite partial to black interiors. i'm not 100% sure how i feel about the houndstooth insert, but i can definitely see how it would work. on a car with your exterior color, i think the other two colors would be too far left. in my opinion, unless you had an insert that included the body color, i think you're probably stuck with black or a darker shade of grey.

Funny thing is I’m getting go ‘red’ by non car enthusiasts.

I would not go red off it was a daily. But it just seems fun. Im holding out to see if my infatuation with red will pass. I really am hearing the advocacy for black… but in my minds eye the red comes together.
