What color paint?
Well, I should be done with my bodywork here in the next week or two. I'm trying to decide on what color I want to spray this car.
It's currently Root-Beer Brown. I've begun to gut the interior already. I'm going black inside.
I think a bright red looks nice. Black is too revealing. Any suggestions on what red to go with? I really like the mid-80's Porsche red.
TIA fellas.

I think you should go with a dark royal blue. I wanted to do it that way but i ended up in keeping stock interior so i stayed brown and added some chrome highlights

I like the Dark Blue thing too... I'm afraid it's too close to black and will show some imperfections. I'm doing this all 100% by myself here, so I want it to be forgiving.
I think the red does that, or maybe the forest green color?
BTW, anyone know how the side moulding is held on? I need to remove that to prep.

If you are doing single step (no clear) there is almost no DIY mistake you can't wet sand/buff away. Midnight blue is my vote.
If I can drive 3 MI winters with no heat you'll be fine in LV summer with no AC Just keep a jumbo bottle of Gold Bond in the glove box and apply regularly.

Lighter colors show flaws the least and retain less heat. In your area of abundant/abusive sunshine, red will fade. The single stage polyurethane is a good choice for diy, but can be a bitch to wet sand. Flatter colors also show less flaws. Guards red is a decent color, but we drive 7's.

Be careful with reds.
It took me a long time to decide. It can be tough to find a nice red if your not looking for burgandy or purple in your shade, and most people dont want the red to reflect any orange or yellow. The stock Mazda reds did that and it really took away from the deep, sportyness that red is supposed to convey.
I ended up going with a pallet of Dupont primary reds.I took the 3 best I could find and did some comparing under direct sunlight after spraying an old fender.I choose 916 Primary Red.Its not a Ferrari,Porchse or other specific red,so it wasnt very expensive. My painter ageed it was the shade he would have choose too.I think it can out very nice.No orange,no metal flake and its not purple or burgnady either.....

^^ Thanks guys! That red is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I was thinking of clearcoating instead of a single stage paint. Mid-night blue would be nice with a tan interior...

Definately clear coat if you can afford it.
Single stage is nice, but clear will get you the wet look and it holds up better. And skip the metal flake, pearl and candy crap....red is red...do right for your sportscar!

I prefer the stock Sunrise Red, while clear coat initially looks better it has several disadvantages including small touch-up jobs. This is why most shops quote for an entire panel for a minor repair.

As far as painting your fb a dark green would be different and i like the dark blue idea also.

If you kept it old school looking, this dark racing green is very nice.I think its very appropriate for a vintage SA(not to mention being a sweet car)......
BTW,a buddy of mine once painted his badly chaffed SE,rattlecan flat black. It actually looked pretty good since he did a nice job and there werent any dents or body damage under it.

WOWZERS! I love that green color. Anyone know where I can get the paint codes for that or where I can buy that from? I may have just changed my mind on the red coloring! It's amazing.
The blue is quite nice too, but it just doesnt seem to fit the 'old school' look IMHO...
