I participated in the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Downtown Car Parade on July 15 and was given the primo parking space in the center of the portico of the USX Tower (Formerly the US Steel Building). Attached are a photo of my car and a photo from google maps street view showing a wider view of the display area.

Very nice indeed. You carry our flag proudly out that way. Is that Tornado Silver? Are your stripes factory or did you put them on later? I have a very similar setup on my 80.

Thank you all for your nice comments. DD if I could get my car looking even half as nice as yours I'd be thrilled. I suspect that DD's car is so clean we could eat off the muffler.

Bonzai, the paint is Tornado Silver

The car was recently repainted. The pinstripes were on the car when I took delivery in February of '84 and are original in color and placement, however the original stripes were tape. When I had the car painted I had them paint the stripes to make it easier to wax.

I wish I could say that I did all of the work myself. Sadly, I lack every skill automotive in nature. As a result, the car has always been maintained by professional mechanics and the paint was done by professionals as well.

When I bought the car it was every penny I had and I was sure I couldn't afford another one any time soon. So I took care of it as though it was the only car I might ever own. It was the only car I owned until nearly 25 years later when I bought the Cayman visible in some of the photos.

This year only two 1st Gens showed up at the Vintage Grand Prix. It would be great to get enough next year to outnumber the Datsun 280 & 240Z's. Plan ahead.

Wow! How did you score that spot at PVGP. <gasp> Was mazda the marque this year?

I went to this almost every year I lived in Pittsburgh, rain or shine. Great venue. Lot of very nice cars.

Good showing for the rotaries in the burg. Congrats!

I got that spot out of pure luck. I was at the right place in the parade line. Mazda was certainly not the marque this year, nor do I ever see it being the Marque of the Year at this event.

Nevertheless, I thought it was great visibility for the RX-7 to have such a prominent spot. The other cars at the Steel Building were all close together preventing any one in particular from standing out in the crowd.

When did you leave Pittsburgh? Maybe you can get a caravan of the OGTA's to bring their cars to Pittsburgh next year for the Grand Prix

Left 7+ years ago. Actually made a few since then by traveling back for *cough*
business. I did drop by the Rotary group one time and may have met you or your
buddies parked on the fairway.

I like the OGTA idea but it would be a 12+ hour ride for the Atlanta crowd to show
up there. It would take me about 8 hours. The ride north through the WV
mountains would be epic even on the interstates. Of course backroads would be
even better.

Thanks for the link. I had no idea it was there. The blogger also had a couple of photos of my car as well as the rest of the cars at the Steel Building:
