nice build!!!
If you're going to be a smartass, you should at least be right. Moroso makes them, but they don't sell directly.

Performanceparts.com sells one, although a Google Shopping search for "Moroso Oil Pan 13B" gives several other good results.

Heres a direct link.

http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=63177

I haven't seen this before, I may consider one for my car soon. I got a TII baffle from racing beat for my engine but overlooked the fact that I was using a SE front cover, and of course it won't work.

Thanks guys. I'm in vacation in San Fran and have not had a chance to Google it as I have been accessing this site from my mobile.

So, just to be sure, anyone if this pan will work with a TII and SE front cover and the Re-Speed cross member? Looks like it will fit an SE so I would think it would work.

Update and input needed.

Oil wise, I went up going with a 3 quart accusump unit as that is what my builder (Dave at KDR) puts in all of the race cars that he builds and it is what he feels comfortable working with and warrantying his engine with.

Now, on to fix the rear-end trouble. My ring and pinion were shot, so I ordered a new one from Racing Beat. I went with the 4.111:
http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm

While there, I picked up new front and rear pinion bearings, a new differential front seal, new side bearings, and a new crush tube. All that ran about $700. That's all great and wonderful, but there still looms the big question:

What differential should I go with?

I considered a few different options such as the Miata or S2000 Torsen differential. However, both of these are not reliable with track abuse and slicks above 300whp.

There is the cheapest option of changing out the plates in mine at about $400. This may last a while, or it may wear out quickly with abuse so it may be the most expensive option in the end if I have to re-build it next year.
http://mazdatrix.com/G8LSD.HTM

I looked into a KAAZ unit which the cheapest I found was at RX7.com for $880.
I have ridden in an FD with one of these before and I was not too impressed with the jerkiness and noise.
http://rx7.com/store/rx7/fcdrivetrain_rearend.html

Another option is the Quaife unit. From what I understand, this is more streetable, but not as good in all-out racing. It is also more expensive as the cheapest I found it was $1206.
http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda...61-0523NA.html

The "best" but most expensive option is the OS Giken unit. This unit seems to outperform everything that I have read about and it virtually indestructable. Here is a KAAZ/OSG comparison from GRM:
http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/whats-diff/
Every review that I have read on it only has good things to say. That being said, it is also the most expensive option at $1520
http://949racing.com/osgikenlimitedslip.aspx

Obviously, we all want the best for our cars. I tend to treat mine like a spoiled child and not know how to say "no". Just being the potentially fastest unit is not the only reason that I would want to get the OSG. As with any custom car, part of the value is the pride in its parts.

I need voices and opinions to talk me out of this

Yeah, but I have new Moser axles, a custom drive shaft, a tri-link suspension, and Re-Speed BBK and TII breaks. To go to a Ford rear end would be to throw away all of those parts.

The above mentioned aftermarket units will easily hold the power.

Wait... talk you out of getting an OS Giken?

Sorry, no can do. Buy it and forget about having differential problems for the foreseeable future.

True, but you are just pushing me further to buy it--not helping my already blown budget.

Does anyone know where to get them cheaper? Maybe Ill also get a glass pumpkin so that I can admire it . Unlike a nice carb or turbo, you can't see it .

I mean, it's one of those things. This are a serious build, you should treat it as such, IMO. If you can afford to do it right, then you should. If you can only afford to half-*** it enough to get yourself on track (story of my life), then that's what you should go for. It's all about your goals for this phase in the car's life.

Yeah, I hate half-assing stuff. In my experience I always end up regretting it and doing it right the second time which ends up costing me twice the money. Even with this car, I went with an internal wastegate initially which I had to ditch. I also bought new wheels which I also had to ditch after doing the TII axle and brake swap.

I think you are right and I should go for it. I'm waiting to see if a forum member can get them cheaper. I should know and pull the trigger by Monday.

If you need to save for another month to make it more comfortable, then wait a month. There's no need to put yourself in the poor house over a differential. I've learned many, many times (OK, maybe I haven't learned yet) it's a bad idea to buy car parts at the sake of your food money.

I do think getting the OSG is the right call, though.

You might want to check with Billy to see if he's got a line on the diff that you're looking for.

Thanks Billy, awesome as always!

However, the guy from 949racing will not give me the part number for this reason. However, any OG Giken dealer will have it in their book for the 1.8 Miata. It is also the same unit as the S2000 or the N/A FC.

I did find a part number on a different site:

MZ072-HA

I'm not sure though if that is the vender's part number or OSG's part number.

Another vender has it as:

OSG-HA091-HA

I am not a miata guy so which one on this page?

http://www.gomiata.com/new.html

The part numbers listed: OSG-MZ072-HA and OSG-HA091-HA. So may not be exact but my guy can use them to help locate the parts.

Also if you put the 1.8 part in your shopping cart on the 949 website it list a part number of MZ072-HA

Well, I just got off the phone with a MX-5 guy that is selling his. He has a OSG-HA091-HA, so I do not know if that will work as the MX-5 had some differential differences.

Yes, I wrote the guy.

It looks like I will have to buy it new.

Anyone know where I can get it at the old price ($1,300)?

Cool, let me know. The used one fell through thanks to this reply from OS Giken:

"Michael,

Thank you for your email.

MZ072-HA and HA091-HA are similar, yet completely different differential units.

They are not interchangeable. While ring gear size is similar, axle shafts used are

different. Again, not interchangeable.

Please let me know if you would like any additional information.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Sean F

OS GIKEN USA"
