But I think white would look the best w/o a spoiler. Decals would make it look good. And I personally think it gives it a Japanese look. The lip on this looks kinda cool too.

Thanks, it is a little too aggressive in the rear so I'm going to bring it in half of an inch. Looks cool, but will crack my fender the first time it bottoms out. There are currently custom 3" spacers all around, so I will probably machine down the rears.

I know, but there is a reason why there are a lot of black widebodies--it is because they look bad ***. Black is by far my favorite color. However, it only looks good immediately after washing and it is hard to wax it perfectly to take all the swirl marks out. It will also be slightly hotter in the summer.

The titanium grey is an original Mazda color whichis cool. Grey is more original, but I don't want to do something just to be original. Plus color changes suck.

I'm torn.

I did decide against the wing. I will probably have it painted but leave it off and that way if I am having aero problems at high speeds, I can put it back on.

As far as decals go, I just had my racing numbers along with my "team" name on magnetic graphics. I wanted to do my logo, but have not found anyone who can make a magnetic graphic that big yet.

Race wheels and tires installed!

The Diamond Racing wheels and RA1s were installed today and they fit beautifully.

And test fitting the Hella 550 driving lights.

So far the Titanium Grey is in the lead.

Thanks guys. I need to get this bodywork finished on time for the track event this weekend. Paint won't be done by then, but then I can take my time and shop that around. I'm hopeing for 360 rwhp. Tuning should be done by tomorrow.

Titanium Grey FTW.

It will look great, be a little more original (hell, I saw a beautiful black widebody in Swift Current, Saskatchewan: if your asking "where?!?!?", that's my point) so do something that will look great AND be a little more rare to see.

The car is coming together beautifully, and I know exactly what you mean by spending way too much money in one year. Do yourself a favour and do as much of the body prep work as possible before sending it to them. The less they have to do the more likely it is to come out looking good, and the less it will cost you.

Yeah, Titanium Grey currently has 90% of the votes. That was the color I originally wanted, but seeing it this weekend in semi-black made me consider that option.

I have never seen a Titanum Grey car (although that name is used for a MX-5 color, but it is a tifferent paint code), much less a widebody FB. So, that makes it original (I think there is a non-WB FB in Argentina in TG) but it is still a leap of faith. Black, we all know what it looks like.

The race wheels will look pretty bad *** on a grey car.

My favorite part about non-black FBs is that they have what I call the "flying roof" look as the A-pilar is black and it gives the optical illusion of having no A-pilar.

A picture for inspiration:

Whohoo! picked up the car today!

Well, it was a long day, but I got most of the last minute stuff done and finally got my car tuned.

I'm a little disapointed in the numbers, but the car is still a beast to drive.

Today was 89 degrees which I'm sure did not help the numbers. In addition, although I have a 3" downpipe, the rest of my exhaust is only 2.5 inches so I'm sure that held the numbers down a little. At 10lbs, I'm at 303 rwhp, my high boost is 325rwhp.

Tomorrow I am going to wash it and finish lome little things. The car is covered in dust from the sanding of the bodywork--both inside and out. I also need to burn off the tank of gas that is in there so that I can premix with Amsoil.

Race weekend!

So, let me start this out by saying that I'm an idiot for signing up for two days in a row of races with an unsorted car. To be fair to myself, I was expecting my car to be ready at least a two weeks prior to the race so that I could sort it out. I picked up my car the day before the event.

I was driving it around town to get a general feel for the car, and my transmission failed. The rear counter weight had failed and fallen off. Thanks to Dave and KDR (now Speed 1), they were able to get me in, dissassemble the tranny, cut off the counter weight and reassemble it in about 1.5 hours.

So, I show up to NJMP (Lightning) on Saturday at 7:00 and I have no oil in the transmission as I was letting it cure over night. I need to be in grid by 8:00, so I skip the driver's meeting and get to work on getting oil in. Once that is taken car of, I'm feeling good and I'm on time to get into grid.

I'm taking it pretty easy and learning the car, but I still pass a Cobra and a Corvette among other cars. An S2000, a Lotus and and NSX out drive me.

I come in after the first session and I'm checking everything when I notice that I completely lost one of my engine mounting bolts and the other three are finger loose! I find a bolt that works, but I need to secure them all from vibrations. The only thing I find in my truck is some trim glue. I put that on all four heads, and, surprisingly it cured with the heat and hardened. The bolts did not move after that.

By my second session, I was passing the S2000 and only the Lotus, and (surprisingly) a modified 300C SRT8 were going by me. My 84 SE was doing what it was supposed to and representing well for the rotary (there was only one other rotary, an FC that was running with the pros).

On my third session, the car started running like **** and had no power. I pulled in a found fuel on top in the block. I removed the manifold, but one of the rubber grommets on my primary was toast and I was out .

The good news is that besides what I consider minor issues, the car ran well and kept up with the big dogs. I know the next thing about to fail is the rear differential so I need to look into that.

My girlfriend took some pictures that I will post as soon as I can get my hands on them.

Sorry to hear about all the problems, but good job at the track! And at least you know what the problems are now so you can get them all sorted out. Can't wait to see the pictures!

Not the best pictures but...

My girlfriend is not the best at taking action photos but here is what I have that she took before her battery died:

Getting oil into the transmission:

My puppy:

A very cool Volvo:

Catching a Corvette:

Traffic:

She missed later on during the day where I went too wide. I was able to recover, but a Lotus tried to follow me and spun out. There are a couple of videos that I will post when I get them.

Dyno tuning...

A couple dyno pulls before the event even though it now needs to be retuned due to chaning the primaries.

Thanks! I like to think that everyting I did to this car has a purpose (besides maybe the carpet). For instance, I did not say "hey, my widebody looks good, now let me go get a turbo". It was more like "I'm spinning my wheels in third gear and I need some bigger tires, how can I do that--widebody".

Now I just need to get everything sorted out and then I will get her painted. Function over form--always!

My girlfriend was sitting in the stands as I went by. There was a Porsche couple sitting next to her. The man commented "That's a cool first gen" to which the wife replied "It needs a mani/pedi".

In the class-room sessions between track time, I learned I was nick-named "the flamthrower". I do need to lean out my mixture though as I was getting a lot of flames and smoke.

Congrats on the car. Looks good and Sounds good.

But if you only went widebody for traction... You could have saved yourself alot of time and money with a good set of drag radials.
