Front Suspension Reinstall Questions

Finally reassembling the front of my 79. When I was installing the struts I noticed that the top plate is eccentric, not centered, in the tower. Which way do they go in. I installed them so they are toward the rear of the car. See pic attached,

The other issue is the tensioning rods. What a rusty mess. The shaped washers are rotted away. Anyone know where I can get replacements?

Thanks for your input, Herb

The OEM strut mounts are eccentric so you can adjust your camber. The manual has the camber spec and you put the mount the right direction to achieve the correct camber.

The washers might be tough. They are NLA from what I can tell. I'll dig through my parts and see if I have any.

Herb see the ARROW imprinted on the rubber of your strut top? (more like a pointy triangle). When originally installed these were (obv) pointed a particular way in your SA to meet its camber specs, and it is a reference point. I think on removal the idea is to NOTE the location/direction of the arrow so you can correctly reinstall. Did you do that? I can send photos of mine FWIW but I believe the direction may vary between cars. May need to have alignment shop determine correct camber setting??

put the arrow so that it points to the rear center, this gives you the least positive camber and most castor. range of adjustment is so teeny that it hardly matters though

Range of adjustment is something like .2 degrees.

I had them adjusted full forward and out on my SA. It actually felt better than with less positive camber.
