Best on-line place to go to get 1979 parts
I need a flasher relay for my 1979 RX-7. Problem is that I want to buy the part before I take it out. I also need to know what it looks like. My distant mechanic is saying that it is a 3 prong relay. But most sites are telling me it is two prong. Any good parts places out there on the web?

all the aftermarket is 2 prong, this is kind of why the Rx7 people have bought OEM stuff, the aftermarket is usually pretty crap.
in ye olde times, you could look up a 3 pin flasher in a parts book, but this hasn't made it to the internet, and you're stuck with year, make, model, submodel

Third pin on the OEM unit is ground.
Per the 79 wiring diagram, GW (green w/white stripe) is 12VDC in, GB (Green w/Black stripe) is switched 12VDC out which goes to power the lights (via the combo switch), and Black is ground.
From what I can find online, the more modern 2-prong types don't use ground - they only have power in, and load out.
It might be possible to substitute a 2-prong unit in, as it appears the ground may only be needed to make the stock flasher work. Hard to tell for sure without seeing the guts of each, though.
The modern 3-prong units have a separate output "P" for "pilot light" that being the dash indicator.

you know you might try to take the old one apart, chances are its not working due to something dumb, like a dirty contact or broken solder joint

When I went to LEDs I had to bypass my 80 flasher with a modern digital one. I lost the click click noise but otherwise it worked fine. Heres the one I used:

The wiring wasn't that difficult, just used the existing harness and made some jumpers for the 2 leads to the new flasher which only had + and L (load) on it. Works like a charm.
