Hey Dave, that's what my parents used to say about my hair: "That looks just awful".

I confess I don't fully understand what they're up to but I have to admit it's original, at least one clever idea for curing the fading hood problem you often get with original paint.

I don't think so, it's owned by Jim Downing. He let Holly bring it to the meet.

I think we need to convince him to go to a copy store and have a few copies made up.

There's a story behind the poster, I'll try to find out more details from Holly.

Here's the story behind the painted hoods, from project 88 gxl:

"well , the whole story is that it was Juno's birthday and she was having a kinda crappy day. we got out of bed to find that the whole basement was flooded from a bathroom leak, so the whole day started off bad. so that among other things made her kinda sad so me and her were trying to think of fun things to do. anyway, we really had the urge to go vandalize something, but we realized that that was illegal and that if we got caught doing that, the day could get a whole lot worse... so when i thought about what else we could spray paint, i remembered we had 5 extra hoods over at my parents house. so i called Andrew and had him meet us there and then Juno and i went to wal mart and grabbed some spray paint and we met at my house and just started painting. there was no plan... just to paint. and that's how it turned out (i think it was a much better alternative than illegal activities.) we then proceeded to play night frisbee and go to bed. the day turned out pretty well. the end."

This is Andy's all original 79 SA (including the paint, points, 4 speed transmission and plaid interior).

Here's a few more pics from previous meets:

I've got a spare hood myself, I think I'll see if I can get Wife Cathy involved in a little art project, she's pretty good with a brush.

Also I'll talk with Holly to see if we can get that poster reproduced. It's pretty big, about 2' x 3', I don't know if there are commercial outfits that will do it but we'll try to get it done.

I was trying to talk Andy in submitting a pic of his car for the '10 1st gen calendar at Crit's lakehouse meet. Ray, you should see that he submits a nice pic of it. Not many 100% stock SAs floating around like that.

At least they bothered to take the hood off to do it. We all know a few FC owners who would try their luck with spray can accuracy before they'd think of detaching the hood.

Very nice car, Mine was that color, A boss I had when I was in Ga had a car the same, even with the plad. it had 75K on it 4 years ago.

I am tempted to drive down for a meet. would like to finish my interior first.

I checked with Holly about the Mazda IMSA posters, turns out there might be a few copies around. I got dibs on the first one, if there are more I'll connect you guys up.

Kent I'll work on Andy about getting some pics for the calendar. I wonder if Andy's car used to belong to Matthew's boss? He got it around that time with about that many miles.

Matthew it would be great to see you down here in the Atlanta axis again! If you can get around to it, paint one of your spare hoods and come on down for the October 6th meeting, painted hoods are all the rage here in Georgia. I think I've got Cathy convinced to do one for me.

Dream on Stu, you are only going to find a stock 79 plaid on black interior in a museum.

If at all possible, can I call dibs on the (if it even exists...) 3rd spare?

It'd look awesome on my wall.
