1st Gen Auction Alert

With the general interest in values and prices I thought I'd start a thread to capture SA's and FB's that happen to cross the block at auction. So far I've only saw a couple examples but believe that we might start to see them more often as interest in J-Tin continues to grow. I was watching the first (bargain) day of Mecum's 2018 Harrisburg auction today and what do you know, up pop's a 79 that has a reported 14K original miles.

It's listed as a 4 speed (S-Model) but has the shift **** of a 5 speed, plus a GS (4 spoke) steering wheel and full center console. Looks like a late 78 built car with a speaker dash, always on A/C switch and early dash / door trim but also has the later style door panel design and lower door pockets.
It has aftermarket wheels but waffles were stashed in the rear and included.

The reserve came off at 11K and it went for a nice $12,100.00.

Wow - That car is nice but not digging the wheels. Before prices started going up recently I would say that car was worth 6k just looking at the pictures available. There is hope for us SA owners.

BaT isn't exactly the same level as Mecum, but they have sold a fair number of 1st gens lately. A repainted but otherwise mostly original '79 sold today for $6500, and a 40k mile GSL-SE sold a couple of weeks ago for a pretty crazy $20k.

Just have to factor in the added twist of silly/low mileage. On any car. And what that does to the bottom-line. Would suggest anything with low-teens-to-under 30k mi (-ish) with matching condition are really in a category of their own. Then there are guys like me, with the Bastid (my 80 GS) with 10ft eye-ball and the clock already turned over the century mark.
I will tell Hagerty its worth $10K+ to replace it, all day tho...

Those are factory OEM Bridgestone's. They first came on 79 Limited's and 80 LS models. They were also used on GSL models (and maybe others) up to around 83 or 84. Classic look of that era.

I have a set of these original tires on their original rims. Mine are not road worthy because of cracks. I's be very cautious driving on them at high speed.

From the pictures, thats not a 12K car IMHO. It should have been spotless inside and the paint should have been like new. Of course maybe for the auction it was cleaned up more. Then those pictures don't do it justice.
