From your thumbnail, she looks pretty nice. Spark Yellow cars have a good following. You're right, your car could have been built in 78 but it's offically a 1979 model. That was the first year of production which ran from Feb 78 to May 79. June of 79 is when they began 1980 model production. What month was your car built? It should be on a tag on the drivers door jam. Post up some more pictures of the inside, outside and engine when you get a chance!

that is in nice shape! Banza is correct on the model year Mazda wanted to get the RX-7 in showrooms as quickly as possible and production was started in 1978. though technially it could have been labeled a 1978 modelyear car, it was offcially called a 1979 model. i its an ealy exmple it will have no right side mirror and will have the hood prop on the right side of the engine bay instead of the left side. vin should hae a serial number just after 500000 if its an early example.

Wow that's pretty and it looks like it's one of the very rare first ones made, worth really big bucks! (of course that's what we all think about our 1st gens).

I need to see a bigger picture, post more when you get them!

This is a very early car. What is the VIN? In the VIN registery thread you can see what VIN's other forum members have registered and where yours falls in. Early cars are considered a little more collectable due to their rareity. Some of the first ones were test and magazine cars. Do you have a 4 speed or 5? I believe the sliding center console door you mention is in fact the ashtray door, probably in black? These are still around (in all colors) from speciality Rotary used part dealers and still available new in black.

No matter what your plans are for the car, this is a good place to come for knowledge and assistance.
