Heard a lot about this place (Bodywerks) in Van Nuys from some buddies so I decided to go and get a quote yesterday. Small place but the guy (Jose) is super friendly and asked me a ton of questions to double-check and go over everything exactly as i wanted. Like any normal person I asked to see his work and he didnt even hesitate to show me. He had his 1980 Toyota 2 door (white on some nice wheels) He said he had painted that car in a day and when I saw his work I was sold.


Basically he will be doing the following for $1,500.00

-Strip paint off car to the primer
-Fix all dents and dings and fill if needed
-Remove bumper and misc (tedious work)
-Fit my aftermarket body kit
-Remove all necessary moldings, lights, mirrors, etc.
-Paint exterior only
-Paint (2) mirrors, (2) wings, (2) sideskirts separately then install
-custom paint the hood (black / white)
-3 1/2 coats of clear
-Wet sand 1/2 clear coat for good finish



All this in a week an a half!!!

Just found out last night that I need to add another $500.00 to my original quote. Apparently the previous owner didnt do a good job and now the paint place has to strip the car to the bare primer and sand it off. FACK!!!!!!!!!!


I was hoping this wouldn't happen but before my very eyes, the shop owner was peeling off the paint with a blade like flakes. Very shitty feeling but in the end I'll have a complete and properly done paint job. 2 grand is still a very great price to pay, especially or all the work he has to do just to get my kit on...

 

Wowser's.....well, quality paint job for a quality FC. IT's goona be sick once it's done. I dont think I want him to paint my ***** anymore, I'll pass.

If he was planning on stripping to the primer anyway, and the old paint is coming off so easy... shouldn't the price go down?

 

Thats what i thought but in some areas the paint is solid and needs to be sanded. It was a shitty job by the previous owner. He's also getting all the nooks and crannies. He's honestly above and beyond. He's even installing everything once its done. He's rolling my fenders a bit too so I can run a spacer fro a more aggressive stance. Really cool guy.

Holy Moly you're not kidding!!!

Well I'll post my pics up tonight... you'll see what this guy has done in 48 hrs.... amazing considering he's also working on a Harley F-150, a 03 Cobra and a hinda with bad damage. He wroked on my car til 9 pm last night...


I think this is the beginning of a cool e journal and album...

SO here is day 1 and 2 of the progress made on the FC... as you can plainly see, you could sneeze on the old paint and watch it fall off. On some areas it was hard as F*** to remove so sanding and more sanding had to be done... small dents and dings were circled and removed on pass side...

I think for 2 days, this guy has made some serious progress. He told me yesterday the car would be done the first week of Sept. Just in time for FMIC and misc items for seven stock...

$500 deposit was paid and I pay the rest when the car is done and IF I'm happy with the end result. Today, he will finish removing the paint and get the kit fitted correctly... some Modelo beer, food, good people, and lots of dust will be the end to a great week for me!
