Here's my results:
Steve Kan base tune (strait pipe) = 321rwhp @ 10lbs
NeptuneSpeed base dyno (cat & muffler in mid pipe) = 255rwhp mustang dyno @ 10lbs
- loss of approximately 21rwhp for Moroso Spiralflow muffler.
NeptuneSpeed .9bar tune = 259rwhp / estimated correction = 309rwhp +21hp loss = 330rwhp @ 13.23lbs. PFC reads 13lbs. Tuner was afraid to go to 15lbs because of 6.7 compression on brand new rebuild.

Other things done for flate tune rate:
checked compression
fixed apexi boost controler (shop installed wrong and was never working)

Additional work:
oil change
spark plug change (all 9's)

Extras:
free sodas
free lunch

Does anyone know how to do the SAE corrections for the mustang dyno?

I went back as he told me he would smooth out the map but he only changed the boost to .9 and the duty to 40. He said he thinks the motor isn't loading and the dyno needs to be recalibrated. So, I have no idea if my map is even any good.

I don't beleive he is experienced enough with the PowerFC for a FD tuning recomendation. He was able to resolve my Apexi boost controller being plugged in wrong after a while but was perplexed when my water temps stayed at 87c not knowing fan settings could be changed with the datalogic. He also did not start from scratch with a new map as XS would have. Most likely because of my optinal boost control kit. If I had known FC's did not use PFC, I would have waited for XS or Kan, but I originally went there for an oil leak that wasn't resolved or looked at untill after the tune. If my compression was too low to continue the tune, then it shouldn't never have been offered since the compression test was the first thing done.

So what's the outcome? Is your tune still not finished? Sounds like you're unhappy with the work that they did.

"If my compression was too low to continue the tune, then it shouldn't never have been offered since the compression test was the first thing done."

From your previous post, it sounds like they tuned at 13psi. You asked them to bump up to 15, but they didn't feel comfortable because of your compression? Sounds reasonable to me unless you asked before they started that you wanted to be 15psi.

Either way, if you're unhappy, talk to Yoshiya to see if he can make things right somehow. Let us know how everything turns out. I think I might be taking my car there pretty soon.

I went there for an oil leak, first and foremost. It was checked for last after I rereminded him about it and I was told it was the oil pan even though there was oil way up high. He thought it was from the wind.

Yes, I originally requested 15lbs and he agreed to do 1bar. Compression test was done first but did not mention he was worried about doing the tune. He said it was ok since it was close to all 7's.

I never had a chance to clean my HKS race plugs (10's & 10.5's). He said they were bad. I'm not going to argue that point, so I agreed to let him replace with OEM platinum 9's all around.

My oil had just been changed a week previous with GTX 10-30 and was clean but he wanted synthetic 15-50 Mobil1. I saw no need but he was the tuner and I wanted a good tune with him being comfortable with the car.

Correct the tune is unfinished. He stopped at 13lbs stating he was afraid to go to 1bar becuase of the low compression but before he started he said the compression was ok to tune. ...he told me to come back and he would clean up the map becuase I had to go to work. I came back and all he did was change the duty cycle to 40% and boost from 13lbs to 1bar. If he was afraid to tune to 1bar, why would it be ok to crank up the boost? Oh yeah, on the revisit he said he thought the dyno wasn't loading and needs to be recalibrated.

So I went to Rotary Reliability for another compression test and got 5's and 6's. Went to Mazdatrix and they beleive they did the test wrong but couldn't test it themselves. Another $80 on top of the $460. SO now I have to go back to them to retest while waiting for a spot from Mazdatrix.

For the oil leak RR&R told me it was the crank case filter since i'm single turbo. Mazdatrix said the same thing, but that's how they setup my car. Now I need a oil catch can. Neptunespeed said it was my oil pan.

So now I have an appointment with XS-Engineering for another compression check and another retune and will cost me well over an additional $400 assuming the previous compression tests were done wrong and they are comfotable with the #'s.

Since I only have 200 miles on my new engine, I just needed a 0-4000 RPM to 0 psi tune so I can properly break in the engine.

I decided to take it to Yoshiya at Neptunespeed for a quick dynotune. They did a great job and I would recommend them to anyone. He took great care and about 2 hours on the dyno to make the PowerFC map that I wanted. After that we took the car out and drove it to make sure it was okay. He then finished the map by smoothing out the map, another half hour and then took it out for a final check.

I then drove it home, and what a difference. I had a very rough map started, and he made the car run very smooth throughout the 0-4000 RPM to 0 psi. I drove home with a big grin!

I spent quite a bit of time talking with them and they know rotaries; building, modifying and tuning them.

So if you have been on the fence about going there either for PowerFC tuning or some other work, I would give them a chance as they are very fair and highly knowledgeable.

Wow. That totally sucks. Before spending money at other shops, you might want to see if Neptunespeed can make things right for you. I don't know what they can offer, but have you told them how unhappy you are?

Keep us updated on how everything turns out for you. Hope everything works out for you, homey.

It's not worth my engine to have them retune if they are not confident enough with the PFC and/or my engine. He said he would call me if/when his dyno is recalibrated and the motor checked but that was supposed to have been done in january allready. This was why he didn't offer any tunes untill March.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Yoshiya's still a great guy in my book, but you shouldn't get your car tuned by someone that you're not comfortable with. I'm still planning to take my vert in to get her fixed before giving her to my dad. I'll post my experiences here.

I now have an appointment to get re-tuned by XS-Engineering. I didn't want to be on stand by with Steve Kan (group tune) and not get in. It sounds like he is fine for 2nd gen guys (Haltec, Motec, whatever) but as I said I can not recomend for Apexi PowerFC tuning from my personal experience.

I thought he specialized in FD PFC tunning. I need to get my car tuned and now i dunno where to take it........ forget KAN cause hes always booked. I need to here some successful Tuning stories about neptune or else i need to look for other places like RnR or XS, but im not hearing anything to good about them either.
Any words?

^ RR&R doesn't tune. They hire XS to come to them or they have another guy but he told me he hasn't done PFC in years and won't do it. If you mean R&R in Upland, never been there and don't know.

Well, still can't get an appt with Mazdatrix. Can't get squeezed in early with XS Engineering. So here are my new plugs (9's) after only a few hundred miles since my retune from Neptunespeed. I am hoping I do not have another blown engine! Drove car to work on Friday and it was ok. Went to lunch started it and it sounded fine untill I put her in gear, sounded like engine was blown. Engine stumbles and giving it gas kills it. My IACV buzzes real loud, so I replaced it. The brand new one does the same. I've killed power to the battery but that hasn't helped. Next is new plugs then new O2 sensor (current one has 5k miles on it).

I believe its R&R, someone told me they tune for 200. Thats all I know, but I also heard that people who got their cars tuned, with PFC, had some problems after.

armenmaxx there have been plently of people here that have been tuned and motor work done by yoshiya from neptunespeed. the only thing i heard about gogoracer's car was his compression was bad, and yoshiya as a tuner didnt want to blow a customers engine and wanted to be safe with it. also i believe all in all there was miscomunication between the 2. because from what i heard yoshiya never got a complaint from him after he left, but decided to on the forum. i think you should have it checked back from neptunespeed, cause they are always willing to help and does not want a customer leaving unsatisfied

If you have a correctly sorted engine you should have no problem. Yoshiya tunes based on AFR and he is careful and meticulous. I don't know how he compares to Steve Kan, but I have confidence in his work.

Even if you go with Steve for tuning, your engine should be in good working condition.

from what i heard. gogoracer's car didnt have a great compression, thus made it hard for neptunespeed to push more out of the engine.

i understand, i guess im going to go with Neptune, i have been hearing very good things about him, so i guess i trust him.

One question, does he use his own wideband, or do i need to buy one?

He has his own wideband. They will take your O2 sensor out and put theirs in or if you have a second bung before the cat, they can put it there.

I stated the facts good or bad. He told me he would redo the map becuase I had to go to work. It was not done, all he did was crank up the boost and change the duty cycle. He did not smooth out the map as he told me he would do. It makes no sense for him to crank the boost up higher then he was willing to tune for. Yes, I was dissapointed and it showed on my face as explaimed by the coworker from the little japanese I know.

Compression test was done "before" the tune. If he felt it was too low, then the tune should not have been done.

Let me start over since this is being misunderstood:

I went for an oil leak.

I asked if dyno was ready and if they were prepared to tune.

I asked if they could tune 1bar "after" my oil leak was fixed.

I was told "yes, no problem".

Oil was changed at their request. I had new oil & filter but was told 10-30 was not good enough for the tune. - miscomunication? Maybe

I told them my HKS race plugs were most likely dirty since I couldn't clean them and they had a few thousand miles on them. - Plugs were changed at their request. They had never seen HKS "race" plugs and I was told they couldn't be used becuase they were not rotary specific.

Compression test was done. To my suprise, I had almost all 7's but one 6.7 and was told I had good compression and one 6.7 was no big deal and my engine sounded great. I was not expecting less then 8's however.

He was not familiar with the optional boost control kit, so he did not start a new map.

Boost kit was running off of wastegate spring so he resolved that issue after a while. He tried calling Apexi but they never called back. He was unaware they had an Orange,CA USA office.

Bunge was welded in for wideband.

At this point oil leak had not been looked at but tuning began.

He stoped and told me he was afraid to continue because the water temp would not go above 87c. I explained the fan speeds were changed with datalogic.

He continued upwards to 13lbs making several runs. I was told Steve's map was rich on the bottom and lean on top and he would correct that.

At 13lbs we got 259whp which was only 4whp more then base dydno results with 10lbs on Kan map.

At this point I was told he was afraid to raise the boost.

I had to go to work, so he told me to come back and he would smooth out the map. I said I still needed the oil leak looked at, the reason for the visit. He looked at it and said it was the oil pan.

I went back two days later but he did not smooth out the map but he cranked up the boost and changed duty cycle after he told me it wasn't safe for more boost.

Oh, they also bought me Mcdonalds and played some drifting videos for me.

Whoops almost forgot, on second visit he reason for not smooting out the tune was he thought the motor on his dyno was bad, would need to be fixed and dyno recalibrated.

I asked if he would please call me when that was done so he could then smooth out my map. No phone call as of yet, so I do not trust his map.

So you tell me, am I puttin them down or simply stating my experience?
If anyone wants to upload my map to review it before I get retuned again by XS Engineering, they are welcome to.

Moreover to other replys:
*Only know problem was oil leak. That was not looked before the tune. A/F
problem I had previously had allready been resolved.
* My compression is lower then before Neptunespeed tune.
* Car is not driveable now. Bad map? Won't know untill it gets looked at by XS-Engineering.
* I had also heard good things which is why I went, unfortunately I had not realized FC's do not use PFC. So, take my comment however you want but again from my experience I can not recomend for Apexi tuning.
* I have no FC experience nor Haltech or anything esle with Neptunespeed.
