Reff Ticket
If they see an aftermarket gauge it's enough probable cause to pop the hood. Or if your exhaust is louder than stock. It's that easy. Not saying I like it, just the facts ma'am.
. what threw me off is when he asked me "why did i hide the spark plug cables. its only a v6 =/"
so he gave me a ref ticket 271561(b) vc modified emmisions.

Edit: seems that most standard distance is 50ft(SCCAforums)

according to the cop its 95db at 4500 rpm, not sure how correct his statement was(he was being a *****) but from what ive read its 89db at idle. i got pulled over at a red light so i was basically profiled(still ranting sorry =/)

with teh current state debt. problem, i wonder if we could bring that up again, about closing all teh BAR refs for good this time, and also the roadside visual inspections that cost tax paying citizens money, esp for paying cops for pulling people over for that crap. Less people in court = less staff that needs to be paid etc.
Id gladly pay more for vehicle registration instead of deal with that stuff.. lol

I got pulled over by a chp officer that was also being a ******** and gave me a state ref ticket. Pulled me over for no front plate and told me to pop my hood. He gave me 5 violations and took pictures of my car and of me. Said all of my violations were not correctable, when i showed up to court the judge told me i could correct them, came back the next week and i ended up paying 30 bucks total. I was lucky the state ref station had just been closed

correct i just got pulled over tonight with another forum member. i exercised my right and he clearly stated my exhaust was too loud. i said " according to what" he said himself. i clearly told him it was under the legal decibel limit and he crossed it out
.
what threw me off is when he asked me "why did i hide the spark plug cables. its only a v6 =/"
so he gave me a ref ticket 271561(b) vc modified emmisions.
after a list of 7 violations such as but not limited to
tinted taillights
massive exhaust
hks carbon ti
and shiny air valves
im sure he ment intakes.. but hey he was the expert.
none stock v6 engine
all his words
i reputed all his claims and only walked away with 2 violations. but w/e those ******** look like the guys from super troopers, it was great.....go team RamRod =(

called chp today. they said that its moslty based on the officers/deputy discretion if he has reason to believe that your exhaust is "TOO LOUD" he can give you a modified exhaust(probable cause) ticket and make you pop your hood.
since there is really no means of the officer/duputy to determine the DCB he cant cite you on noise pollution or excessively loud exhaust, BUT he can give you a modified exhaust(correctable) citation. "its was loophole for street racers to get away from loud muffler citations which now backfired lol"(chp's words)
now to correct the citation, which has to be done by the state ref, is either put back the oem exhaust system or try your luck and hope that your modified exhaust is lower than 95decibals @4500 rpm or 1/3 of redline to pass at the sound check station. if your "modified" exhaust passes the loud test you get a nice little plaque that you can carry in the car and they (chp, sheriff, local ******** agency) cant bother you about it anymore. so one less probable cause to pop your hood.
Now, for the Modified Emmisions citation
its 90% visual according to my brother in law(******** sheriff) and 10% mechanical(sniffer)
if you have alot of bling more than likely he's gonna want to se a EO number or CARB sticker/card for the parts that has been issued in under 3years since they expire or become invalid
best way to pass this is to say that those parts are oem parts that have been polished for show or aesthetic value and and in no way shape or form alter the purpose or the manufacturers emmision standards. (bov's, most open air filters, and missing hoses are automatic failure)
im keeping my HKS carbon Ti on the car when i go get tested hopefully i pass. push come to shove i have to put the oem exhaust =/
putting on my oem dp and airbox ill keep you guys posted on the results
