Alternatively, you can wait and sign up for a Ben B tuning session, too.

There's Rusty's Honda and Mazda in Santa Cruz. It isn't specifically a "rotary" shop but Rusty and his son Ryan have a lot of FB's and race them too. They helped me look for a good car and are pretty knowledgable when it comes to these cars. Of course I'm pretty much the only club member in Santa Cruz County besides Natey....But they're a great shop.

Hey guys. I know of two shops in the san jose area. 1 is mike at Mr. Mazda. He knows his **** but he is a total asshat. the guy is a joke and really should learn how to run his business. if you have a bunch of money to throw in his face your good if not he will treat you like ****. The other is Paul at Rotor sport. i don't know much about this other shop is but ive heard okay things about it. Then there is a guy i recently met named Ivan. He is well known for rebuilding rotary engines. the guy is a real pro in the area and super legit.

I would also recommend Ivan.
He can be bit pricey but his job is high quality and is done right everytime. I got 2 major jobs done with him. I'm pretty happy every time. The pain is: you have to leave the car with him and there is none other options.

Depending on what you need I may be of some help. I'm in Yuba til mid August, then I'll just periodically visit. Other than that I'll be in Chico. You can also hit up Slpin or w/e his name is Alan. He does good work too, but is up in Chico as well.

I know its been a few years since this thread started but is Ben still around in Marysville? I would really like to find a local trustworthy mechanic in the Rocklin CA area.

I just got a S4 GTU which is currently in the shop getting body and paint for 2 weeks. While it's there I would like figure out my next move and find the best place do a diagnostic test.

I picked it up from a guy in Rohnet Park about 3 days ago (maybe you've seen it on CL) and it has 200k original miles from what the "middle man" said and just want to make some decisions on;

do engine work (S4 TII swap, or keep it N/A and get a rebuild with port and other goodies)

or go wheels and or upholstery, since the car "seems" to be running ok.

Just some background, this is my first rotary with no prior experience and want to do things right. Haven't done compression test yet, coolant is holding current level in reservoir and motor holds idle. Drove it home from Rohnet Park to Rocklin with no engine kills.

I apologize for any lack of info but, i'm just trying to learn this car and community, which has consumed all my waking and sleeping hours. I can hear wifey now....get off the computer and do some household chores...lol

Thanks for reading.

Dave

I'm about 15-20 mins outside sac. Right by Thunder Valley Casino. I'm looking forward to my new RX7 life and hopefully meeting lots of great people.

So with Ben out of the area, where do we go?

No offense taking. I'm not a stranger to wrenching and I knew that buying a 7 would involve alot of on the job training. To be honest i'm looking forward to it (to some extent hehe) but, theres nothing wrong with having a back up plan, you never know when a"trustworthy" mechanic would come in handy.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm from the east bay(hayward, union city, fremont) and wanted to know if anyone's taken their car to "rotor sport", in Santa Clara? I'd appreciate some reviews. I'm wondering how they are with carbs, and I want to take my first gen there. It's super hard to find a mechanic that works on carburetor, let alone rotary. So if anyone knows any other places in the area that work well with me, I'd appreciate the details.

I can vouch for Rotorsport. I have seen him fix screw ups from other rotory shops plenty of times. Just as recent as a couple weeks ago he fixed a clutch job gone bad on an FD from Rick's rotary.

He is also good with carbs as he grew up racing and tuning carbed Rx3s and FBs.
