The part that is the most depressing (and also gets my ire up) is that these articles say "cars modified for street racing". My car was never modified for "street racing" - never been to a street race in my life. Street racing is stupid - aside from an occasional freeway roll when there was no traffic around, all my racing was at the track, but I liked using my car as a daily driver as well.

Kids will race cars, modifed or not. With today's advanced technolgoy, a Honda Accord stock is just as fast as a stock old Camaro or new 6-cylinder Camaro. Hell, most SUVs have 300 bhp now-a-days. This is the falicy of the rules - people will still race on the street and still get killed or kill innocent people. Until they ban free will and judgement (and boy it sure seems like the Establishment would like to), we're going to see this type of story in perpetuity.

And gang, I do believe that if the cop that pulled me over had a choice between writing me a ticket or busting a rapist who happened to be committing the act next to my car, he would have let me go. It's not that he's lazy - it's just a case of wrong place/wrong time for me. I knew the risks and survived for 8 years before this happened. Such is life.

basically i'm in your boat Beast, i know eventually i will get pulled over and asked to pop my hood at which point i wont be driving it as my daily driver anymore. when some kid pulls up next to me and revvs i either just flip em off and go on my merry way or ignore 'em. i mainly built my car for a little fun in the foothills and track use only but every now and then i will do a few highway pulls when no one is around.

it's actually quite annoying always being asked if my car is fast and how many cylinders it has.

No moving. It will blow over soonenough. Just like it always does. We can only prey by voting for the right people, we can overturn some of this BS legislation.

If i can remember correctly the from my street law class and my american government class. The law is to protect us not to prosecute us. This law clearly violates the 4th amendment of searching and siezure. Even though police set an assumption of stereo type as suspicion does not give it a legitimit reason to search but enough to get a warrant. Not every person who modified there car race, some are show car, some are track car, some are us Daily Driver, etc. The police can not pull a modified car over unless they are in moving violation or something really suspicous. This what i have to say look for street racer not us people who modified cars, we dont put anyone endanger but probably the exhaust fumes is slowly killing the person in back of me. lol j/k

it takes even longer to get laws removed than it does to pass them, it'll only get worse believe me.

Screw it, I'll just get rid of my cars here and drive something unassuming in the States. Then I can spend two months out of each year with a Skyline GT-R while I'm in Japan, hahahahaha.

If only that were the case... read my previous thread about the guy picking up his wife from the san francisco airport and got a state ref. He was minding his own business driving responsibly.

blow over??
i highly doubt it... laws on smog check and emissions get tougher and tougher,
more and more people come to california,

and whats wrorse, car companies like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and to some extend mazda making cars that "have the capabilities" of making people think they are fast (Civic SI, tC, SE-R, mazdaspeed (3, 6, whatever)

I think its going to get worse,
(today i got followed by a EP-3 Civic SI after i was going down from the berkeley hills...) and people THINK i go up there to drift or something.... while all i wanted was to take a picture of the bay at night.....

i think its the mass "fad" of modifiying "import" cars and thinking they are gansters and outlaws (just like the F&F movies make them to be) that is making it worse also.... this "underground" idea is getting out of hand....

As a member of law enforcement I'll be the first to say, I think this whole ordeal is a crock of ****. I have better things to do in my shift then to **** with people, who drive modified cars.

I'm fortunate that the city I work in does not really care about modified cars. But please believe the minute my department issues a memo telling us to enforce exhaust / smog vehicle codes, I will be pulling over domestics left and right (Have to be fair).

I've read several articles and it seems this ordeal is a result of side shows. Last time I went to a side show it was nothing but domestic old / new school (Stangs, Maro's, & Scrapers). The only imports I've seen at side shows are Lexus' & Infinities on 20" wheels.

Well, I hope you patrol Dublin. LOLOL.... Dublin is a cool town. I had been pulled over three times in the first 6 months I moved here for my exhaust. The last time, I was ticketed, by a rookie! The old timer on a bike that wrote it off, laughed and said, "I dont waist my time with these!"...

I say nuke oakland, no more sideshows!

fucked up part is the exhaust systems on these cars do not last forever but in the law books anything not OEM is "modified", give me a ******* break.... if mazda still even offers an exhaust system for any generation of 7 it likely will cost more than the blue book value of the car is. the law should be based on noise limits not whether it came on the car from the factory or not. technically they should be pulling over any car that come out of a Midas garage with new exhaust then because it is ******* modified!

You could make a compelling argument in court that an aftermarket exhaust is not "modified" it's only made by a non-oem manufacturer. What does modify mean? If i have a stock exhaust, and poke holes on the mufflier so it sounds different is it unmodified just because it's oem? If i have a stock exhaust but put on a whistle tip is it "modified" now? "modified" can be interpreted in so many different ways, we shouldn't let the law take it at face value.

law is meant to be interpeted in many different ways, but anyways it seem like california state gov taking away more of our rights and freedom for more equality bs. I doubt this goin to blow over, this is only going to get worst.

i fail to recall the last time i saw a cop do a good job on ANYTHING.

protect and serve my ***.

it dosnt matter where you are. if you get pulled over, the cops gunna **** you.

The last time i was pulled over, 2 nights before rotorfest, i wasnt driving, i was in the mcdonalds parking lot, just chillen with some friends, and 2 bike cops roll up and ticket the **** outa me and my friend, anything possible. I asked the cop why i was being pulled over(even though i was parked) and he told me because my car looks modified. and the whole time he kept threating to tow my car. when i talk to cops, im a really nice guy... and Im not a voilent person, but i had an incredibal urge to break that cops jaw... i think the next time a bike cop pulls me over, im going to "accidentily lean on his bike, and knock it over.

leagal limit for exahst is 95db, mine was 103db.... i dont know **** about sound... so somebody tell me, is that "A LOT" over legal limit?

**** COPS....that should be my new sig.

YES that's way over limit. 103 is the legal limit at most RACE TRACKS. Time to add mufflers.

103 is way over the limit. What kind of exhaust setup do you have?

Anyways, I just read your story and it makes me sick to the stomach. I hate it how cops like to powertrip and be a dick just because they know they have the power to **** with you. I hope everything turns out well for you and your car, but like i said, it makes me sick

I wonder if having a CHP1199 license plate frame would help with the cop situation...
