I will leave his name out of this, because I'm not a total ***#$%*, I just need to vent. So here we go.

2 Years ago (maybe longer) I decided I wanted to convert my car to manual. OK. The guy Ive been buying my parts from is also a mechanic. Always straight up, always on time. So I figured I could go through him, get my car converted to manual and be a happy camper.

I was making payments monthly (This was while I was taking care of my then girlfriend w/rent for her and her mom. -.-) And I finished at the beginning of this year. Sweet now let the work begin!!! ...... or so I thought.

First date that my car was going to be done (smogged and in my hands, Feb 15th.).

Feb. 15 comes and passes. I call him for info. He then says. March 2nd. Comes and passes again. I then borrow a car from my new girlfriends Dad, feeling lame and stupid yes, (1979 MBZ 300D --- actually a nice car and gas seemed to last me forever), March 17 comes, (My BDay) and again... whats going on?

I sold the parts needed for the conversion. I am in the process of replacing but This should be done by April. .... OK. Instead of getting a wiring harness from a manual, he seemed to think it would be easier to re-wire a automatic harness instead (Please note, now that I know, there are 53 changes in the harness). Anyway, April long passes. I am in constant contact because I only have the 300D for another 2 weeks. He say it will be done no problem.

---- Need to wire car.... blah blah blah, rewiring engine harness, main harness.... bunch of bs in between the dates. Now here is when my patience is tested... and tested and tested.



July 5th. What's going on? Waiting on a part. OK. I received a DMV notice informing me that my registration is canceled and I owe 1000. Unless I get insurance by August 2nd. I call him and let him know. He says it will done WAY BEFORE AUGUST 2nd. OK. Whatever. I continue to deal with the DMV, because I was under the impression that I did not need insurance on a car under PNO. 4 operators agreed, 1 did not. Anyway, My car should be done and I shouldn't worry about it. (>_>)

July 20th. Any news? I now need the following. (A long list) I bought all the parts from Huntington Beach Mazda. Gave to him. Done. (350$)

July 27th News? I need more parts. I order more from Huntington Beach Mazda. he gets all the parts by the beginning of August. Oh, car will be done by August 2nd. (225$)

August 2nd I need a tool to remove something, as well as a stock exhaust because my current had a hole in it (OK, np I wanted to go back to stock anyway).

August 15th ....... I am calling nearly every week, and getting extensively pissed off. Just finished re-wiring the harness. Everything is good..... well I need a couple of parts from Malloy Mazda, because I forgot to tell you I needed them, Ill pay out of my own pocket (Thanks....) When they come in, I smog your car and its ready to go.

September 1st. I'm waiting for a tool, by the time you come back from Vegas (3rd-8th), your car should be smogged and ready. Oh I need 125 to buy the tool, and I need to get the exhaust gaskets from malloy, and the shifter assembly along with ..... (something else), so I need another 125 to reimburse me for that as well. O..... k. I'm not helping you with the tool, thats your responsibility. Parts, ok whatever, as long as my car is finished after this. I'm not buying ANYTHING ELSE!!!! JUST FINISH MY CAR.

September 18th Waiting for the tool. They sent me the wrong tool, (it wasn't strong enough) and now I'm in the middle of returning it and getting another. Should be here by Monday, I remove the ....... and the car is finished. Ill get it smogged, and you can pick it up. Good.

TODAY: No response. I assuming its not done. As his track record would indicate.

-I have paid nearly 5000 for this swap that should not of cost me anywhere near this. I got ripped off.... and only way I can defend spending so much money on this is by his quality of his work which I HAVE NOT SEEN!!! SO I CANT EVEN JUSTIFY THIS TO MYSELF ANYMORE!@!

Anyway, just wanted to drop this here. And I know he's on the forum sometimes. So if he sees this whatever. I don't care. I'm getting seriously pissed off now. I just want it finished.

Also, if there are any mechanics familiar with this, chime in please and if you can explain to me how long should a swap take? What part do you need a 1000lb pressure gun (3/4in) for in regards to the tranny area. And also If this takes any longer, who can complete this. I will get a complete list of what he has done in regards to what needs to be done. I will keep this up unless he finishes the job.

I hope everyone else's projects are going well. I keep tring to goto meets but this crap is killing me.

He might have needed the gun for the flywheel nut, but i took mine off fine with a 500ft/in 1/2 inch gun. This is taking way too long, you should go to his shop and see if he is actually working on it...

 

that sucks. it should have been done in like 3 saturdays with alcohol. i cant think of any special tools that would be needed just for a straight swap. *shrugs* i hope you get your car back soon.

 

Flywheel nut sounds right. :/ Most of the time when he's talking Im so pissed that I dont hear.

P.S. Thanks, I hope I get it back also. I think thats the reason I've lost so much love for my FD and really wanted to trade it for a s2k. This stress is making me lose that fire I had for this car.... a long long ago.

he fucked you this should have been taken care of months ago , what mechanic besides this joker charges a coustumer for tools , you got bent , when you get this car i sure hope its all cherry if not take his *** to court

jeez, I have a mechanic in Anaheim that could probably have this done for you in less than a week and i'm 90% sure he would charge less than $500 in labor. He is the only mechanic i trust my car with. He basically rebuilt my engine for me in two nights, and i havent had a problem since. PM me if you want his info. His place is very close to the 57 freeway and lincoln. Or Lincoln and State College.

 

Damn. Take it back and go somewhere else.

dude, you dont need much to convert from auto to tranny, just the clutch pedal assembly(im selling one for like $50), manny tranny($100), master and slaves($?), ecu and harness(cheap for N/a under $60), and some other lil things, yea i know you gotta tak weld the clutch in, but thats fairly simple.

If you guys want to knowfurther information, pm me. I dont want to release it out in the open with fear of retaliation on my car. Although he might be able to figure out its him, I dont want to cost him to think Im going to destroy all his potential business. Although once he's done, getting feedback is going to happen.

I guess the first hint for myself should of been, he does work out of his house and not a shop. The "Shop" has a RHD conversion in it, and didnt have room for my car, at which hes also doing body work on it.

ALso, Yo Brismo and Japan2LA. Ill be sending you pm's in a couple of mins regarding 1. Mechanic down the street from me (I live 3 blocks from Angel Stadium - yet im a Dodger fan???) 2. What does the average swap cost? Ill send you the details fully (Japan2LA) so you can get me an accurate estimate. Maybe if I get 2 or so estimates.... it should raise a red flag to him that Im getting ripped off here.

Anyway, Ill keep this updated with his work, maybe it will motivate him to finish faster? or go slower? But if this takes any longer (past this week) Im posting everything on here so you guys will know and steer clear of him. As my first post states, this is just getting rediculous!
