Functioning tach required for CA smog?
Does the tachometer in the meter cluster need to be accurate/working in order to pass a CA smog test?
Hopefully one of the CA smog guys can give a quick answer. I have an FD with a bad tachometer and fixing/replacement is going to take me a while. I don't have a problem driving the car with a bad tach, just focusing on getting it road-legal for now.
Thanks.

Thanks for the input. I know it 'should' be fine. It should also be fine without an egr, with a simple single turbo, better intake and proper ECU tuning. Unfortunately, the rules are rules and I don't know them well enough. Just looking for a definitive yes or no. The state should also be worried about a lot bigger issues than my exhaust. But for now, I'll settle for a nice shiny 2013 sticker.

Now I get it. Same thing CID440 was saying. I can't remember ever driving a car without a tach. Thanks.
