The solution is to build a sleeper REPU that puts 144 hp to the ground like mine

subaru BRAT's are cool. My buddy just bought the Subie Baja, the new 4 door version of BRAT and we're contemplating buying a BRAT just to mess with. Mabye put a 13b bridge in it And keep the seats with hand grips in the bed of course!

Is that an old FORD COURIER? Where did you buy the headlight upgrade kit. Reminds me of those frog looking mini-p/u trucks from the 80's. nissan/datsun whatever.

It is a Mazda Rotary Engine Pickup (REPU). And is better than the old Datsun 520/620 Chevy Luv trucks in many respects. But yes, same era.

thought I'd pitch in my 2 cents since I just read 11 pages lol.

We've got no stickers, but we do have shirts.

"street racing is not a crime"... I think they're pretty stupid actually but all my friends wear 'em lol. (I dont' even own one) Just thought I'd throw it out there since you guys seemed to be looking for ideas.

Question for you guys... if I take a road trip down to CA (I hear its sunny there? and they don't live in igloos?) in my fire breathing, black-soot-spewing, cat-less, emmission-less 10AE with canadian plates, can I get fined for emmissions violations or no? (and no, I don't drive like an *** on the street, I'm not 16 anymore... lol! so I'm not concerned about those kinds of tickets)

you shouldn't get a ticket if you havent been in the state for over 30 days. but any cop can pull you over just to be a p.i.t.a.

Terrh, I get pulled over a couple of times a month and they haven't ticketed me yet. My TII is registered out of state and has out of state license plates. I am just like you though, fire breathing and black soot spewing. Just be nice and respectful to the officer and they'll just hassle you but that's it.

Jan,

The solution I was talking about was to actually start a petition. And it would have to be more than one person getting more than just car junkies like us to sign it. We would need the corporate business man as well as the eldery folks to all sign up on it. It's going to be a long and difficult process, but it can be done. And Bert is right, I really don't have to worry about it because I am out of state. But seeing as I live here right now, and I believe this is bullshit on the part of the state of Cali then I feel I'm just as responsible as all of you are to try and fix it. Just my .02

thanks zach, but is there a specific format you have to follow? or a form you need to download? or can it just be a blank piece of paper? and what should it say, or how to word it? not really sure how to go about with it.

California is not so bad. Come on people lets be truthfull. If you have a fixed up car in the middle of the night and your driving a fixed up car "yes most likely you can get stoped by the police man".. Just because,, Its always been like that. White,Black,Asian,Mexican, no matter what ethnic you are your going to be stoped. Especially when you have a bad record and they see that your have messed up back in the day's.. Hell it's there job and we are paying them to do it..It's true some can be dick head's but allot of us guy's are?. So to prevent any of us car enthusiast from being stoped. Stay home and just kick back or cruise with allot of your boy's. Then it would look like a deffrent scene. How many of you guys get stoped when there's like 5-10 rx7's loud as hell and be stoped? As for me none and i have been doing this for the past 12 years.

California is that bad myfc3s. It's just that you are used to it being so screwed up. You wouldn't get pulled over in MOST other states for driving at night with a modified car. All of this vehicle control is a problem that started in California. While it is starting to spread across the U.S. it still originated here and it is still by far the worst here.

Jan, I am not familiar at all with what exact format it would have to be in. I know that a blank piece of paper would NOT do the trick though. The argument needs to be well thought out, typed up and proofed. Then people would read that and decide. If they agree with our point of view then they would sign the a printed up sign up sheet. If not then they wouldn't. I am still trying to figure out some information on what would be the best way to set all of this up.

could someone please translate what myfc3s just said? btw, I have been ticketed by a ******** cop while I was cruising with a group of 20+ S2000's. There was an Audi A4 and a Civic with us, but the cop waved them by. Only the S2k's and the FD (me) got ticketed. Cruising with a big group of cars increases your chance of getting pulled over since you're a lot more noticeable.

UPDATE: Just saw a segment on the Ch.4 news about "the crackdown". Cops WILL BE TARGETING vehicles that LOOK modified for racing backed up by millions of $$ and they will be in force in Riverside, Ontario, and get this...Irwindale. So if you plan on doing some LEGAL drag racing, you will most likely get pulled over and ticketed or towed when leaving the legal facility!!!! Be Careful Out There , LA Basin rotaheads!!!!!

the only thing that is stupid about it is there are mods out there that can pass the sniffer test but they consider illegal just because it's not stock. an air filter according to bar is not part of the emission system unless you have a thermostatic air cleaner. but cops see an air filter and say "modified". there is a need for leniency. a balance between auto enthusiasts modifying the cars and tree huggers concern for the environment.

Alright here it goes??..

My wife and i was cruising down "Signal hill" for most of you that don't know"Signal hill" is in the middle of Lonbbeach. About a quarter mile heading west. I have noticed alot of Police cruisers on the left lane and the right lane? it almost looked like a "DUI" Checkpointe? But what was wierd about this. There was an Old's cutlass on the back of a bigrigg getting a dyno and a sniffer was in the exhaust itself. Damm cops are checking to see if your car is a gross polluter. I guess California found another way to spend our hard working money. Free smog check's?. As for me i didnt get pulled to the side because i was driving the SUV.
I can't amagine what would have happed if i took the FC out? Anyways i guess i was lucky..

Jesus, $525 just for intake and exhaust tickets? This **** is rediculous!! No other state is as bad as Cali about this. Quite a few states still don't even have a vehicle inspection at all! I understand that with the huge population of Cali they need a vehicle inspection program and a SMOG program. What I don't agree with is that even if you can pass SMOG you can still get tickets for have aftermarket stuff on your car. That is pure bullshit. That is the state government telling you what you can and can't do. Seems like democracy is a bit out the window in this state!!

Citing modified cars on the premise that they are likely to go street racing feels a bit "pre-crimey" to me.
