they won't give rotaries any exemption, if anything they will always have the lower hand in smog due to the rebuilds taking time to build compression whereas a rebuilt piston engine can idle for 30 minutes then proceed to the smog shop and pass fine. they already are hosing people in that respect with the weak temp permits that they won't give extensions on, so be sure you can break it in and pass smog within that timeframe..

if they do annual testing then they should omit any visual tests, it will bypass alot of the bullshit that is california smog, people bypassing the laws and get more people to actually build smog legal modified cars(which will still limit the power levels and keep the cars at least on a reasonable level versus bone stock or completely built spewing black smoke). i'm sure the onwers would be happy with a 300WHP smog legal car and the environment will be happier without all that unburnt fuel floating into the atmosphere, but what do i know, the white collars know it all.

Woot no smog test this year. Submitted registration online in an instant. For some reason they were making me test every year for the past 3+ years, citing that my vehicle model was a common high polluter... thanks for bumping up the statistics guys :P.

You had contacted me earlier this year regarding your opposition to AB 859, which would have increased the smog check requirements for cars more than 15 years old, adding new costs to collectors, while accomplishing very little in improving our state’s air quality.

I am pleased to inform you yesterday this bill was held on the “suspense file” in the Assembly Appropriations Committee, and is essentially dead for this year. This is truly a victory—but like a bad penny, bad ideas also return over and over again in Sacramento, so we must all continue to be vigilant in protecting our hobby.

In the meantime, I will continue to look out for the interests of automobile enthusiasts as vice-chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, and I encourage you to contact me with issues of concern as they come up in Sacramento, and I am always open to suggestions on how the state’s laws may be improved to make things easier for automobile collectors, customizers, and racers in California.

I have a 93 FD and am moving from Chicago to San Diego.... what is the current law? In Chicago its only OB2 cars that have to get tested, but old cars rust out because of the weather and salt so there isn't as many of them.

What the f*ck? A diesel gets let off but my seven gets it in the ***? That's some automotivicist bull crap right there. Yeah I made up a word, so what. I did this paper in my freshman year and made a formula for pollution from diesel's.

According to Netstate.com California is 770 miles by 250 miles, the mean elevation of California is 2,900 feet above sea level. Scientists have determined that acute altitude sickness occurs at about 8,000 miles above sea level. So if we follow the formula to determine volume -5,100*770*250 than there is 981,750,000 cubic feet of air in California. EPA has stated that a diesel truck engine typically produces 2,778 grams of pollutants per gallon (“Emission Facts”). A typical diesel engine traveling at 15 miles per gallon for 60 minutes at 60 miles an hour would produce 11,112 grams of pollutants. And if a cubic foot of air at standard temperature and pressure, assuming average composition, weighs approximately 0.0807 lbs (Remer) or 36.604 grams; 981,750,000*36.604 so there is 3,593,597,700 grams of air in California and a single diesel engine produces 11,112/3,593,597,700.

Earlier in the essay I stated how this doesn't calculate air current etc. I'm not sure how accurate this is since this was information based so long ago and not sure if I checked or doubled checked my figures etc. So don't flame me if it doesn't exactly work out.

Calm down big hoss, Diesels built after 1998 have to get smogged now too. And I believe motorcycles are on the way as well. But hasn't been put into effect yet.

Well someone would have to make a trip there to get the mail, and don't you think it would be suspicious if a plot of land with no house had 100 cars registered to it. All of similar make and model. I am pretty sure they would figure that one out. Not too mention california state law requires that your car be registered IN california if you are permanent resident here.

Inspection Requirement

In 2004, legislation was enacted to repeal California's rolling
emissions-test exemption for vehicles 30 years old and older and replace it
with a law requiring the lifetime testing of all 1976 and newer model-year
vehicles. This year, a bill has been introduced in the California Senate
(S.B. 1224) by Senator Doug LaMalfa (Senator.LaMalfa@senate.ca.gov ) to
exempt all motor vehicles prior to the 1981 model year from the emissions
inspection requirement. The bill will be considered in the Senate
Transportation and Housing Committee on March 27, 2012.

We Urge You to Contact All Members of the Senate Transportation and Housing
Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately To Request Their Support for S.B.
1224

* S.B. 1224 recognizes the minimal impact of pre-1981vehicles on
emissions and air quality.
* S.B. 1224 acknowledges that pre-1981 vehicles still constitute a
minuscule portion of the overall vehicle population and are a poor source
from which to look for emissions reduction.
* S.B. 1224 endorses the fact that pre-1981 vehicles are
overwhelmingly well-maintained and infrequently driven (a fraction of the
miles each year as a new vehicle).
* For years, legislators, regulators and stationary source polluters
have felt the heat from failed efforts to meet air quality goals and have
looked to older cars as a convenient scapegoat, using false data and
inflated annual mileage assumptions to further their case. S.B. 1224 helps

burden of past mistakes!
