Go to the department lobby for whatever jurisdiction you recieved the ticket from (ie stockton PD, SFPD, ETC) The station officer will be able to look at the ticket, (and may want to see the car) and tell you how to proceed. Believe it or not, Police Officers are human and make mistakes (I had an FTO that forgot to mark something on a ticket, marked it after the fact then we had to send a notice to the person he wrote the ticket to, amending his citation).

I have one for you that just happened to me.

I'm going south on Rosemead about to get on the 60fwy. There's a Sheriff two lanes over from me (he's in the fast lane and I'm on the far right, readying to get onto the 60E. We're both at a light. I speed up to the limit (50mph), he gets behind me and pulls me over.

The reason he gave me is that my license plate lights were dim (I know the numbers have to be viewable from 50 feet and they are) so I was shocked.

He ended up giving me a ticket for the lights, loud exhaust (I have a ST May Shotgun, not very loud) and no front license plate.

First, I'm willing to accept the license plate, my car didn't even come with one. However, the lights (I have bright-*** LEDs) and the exhaust sound bogus to me.

I'm pretty sure this guy was just learning how to ticket because he almost forgot to give me my license, reg and insurance and just last week I received a letter with an adjustment for the cvc--he wrote down the one for the lights wrong.

When he was walking away he said to watch my speed because I was 15 over the limit and I said, "No I wasn't, I was watching my speed specifically to remain at the limit."

Any advice would be appreciated.

there are good apples and bad apples. I'll admit that. The cops out there that are ******** are the specific reason why I'm not in law enforcement today.

Its kinda funny.. I just had my car impounded on thursday night. No VIN on the dash was why it was impounded. my ticket on the otherhand was for no proof of insurance. wich i do have proof, just didnt have it with me. thats not my question.

I was pulled over for 2 things the cop said. My temp registration sticker(red sticker) although its valid, he thought it was fake.. and stickers.

The cops pulled me out of my car. had me stand in 1 spot, and if i waverd even a foot, they freaked out. that dosnt bother me.

My question is. Is it leagal to without asking, pop my hood, and search my car? Ive always heard that they were required to ask permission first.

also, the tow truck driver fucked up my front bumper a bit, and scraped the exhaust pretty good too, Is there any recourse i can take to get things taken care of?

No VIN on the dash was why it was impounded.
Is that a reason for a car to get impounded, what if the dash is changed or the plastic vent that the dash cracked due to sun and age and the vine went into a car wash vacuum? Its not like this is the only vin in the car.

Will a CHP 1199 license plate frame and/or membership really help me from getting pulled over for speeding or having a modified vehicle?? And if I get pulled over, is it true, that CHP is more lenient with people that have those type of memberships?

I got a ticket for using the Metrolink train and forgot my wallet with my monthly pass at home. The conductor or metrolink employee gave me a ticket....looks just like one CHP would give. But he must have been new on the job because he signed it for me. He didn't ask me to sign for it, he just gave it to me already signed but my info and everything else is correct. So does the fact that I never signed anything I was given allow me to get out of this ticket? I can prove it's not my signature because it's not even my name on it. I'm talking about the part where it says "without admiting guilt I promise to appear in court" or something like that.

I guess it is. Its a misdemeanor, ive gotten this ticket before, but never had my car impounded for it. Its a 1200 dollar ticket WITH correction, without correction its like 1400.

The reason you NEED it on the dash im guessing is so if a cop checks a car thats parked and locked, they cant tell if the vehicle is stolen or not. im not sure.

FU, please wiegh in on this, does it matter if the vin is double stick taped or glued in place.

Is this in fact a legit ticket, or is this one of those that would only be legit if a person had some sort of intentional wrong doing.

Having the VIN removed from your dashboard is not a valid reason for a Peace Officer to impound your vehicle (Although, by law there has to be one present on your dashboard). No VIN on the dash might raise a red flag with an officer, but he/she has other methods to determine if your vehicle is stolen (Registration / License Plate / Other VIN's on the vehicle / Physical evident of theft).

No proof of insurace (16028(a) CVC) is a infraction, not a misdemeanor. If your vehicle is insured as you say, then it shouldn't be more then a $10 court fee.

Yes it is legal for a Peace Officer to pop your hood and search your vehicle, since he/she was going to impound it. The search of the interior would be for inventory. Popping your hood was also done for inventory & because you have no VIN on the dashboard (There's always a VIN in the engine compartment of every vehicle, as well as the driver door). The officer needs to match the VIN with the vehcile they have on file for that VIN number.

Well, lets see, hes got you on the front plate (5200 cvc) so fix it ticket, have it signed off and pay the $30 admin fee

I believe you have 5 business days to Notify DMV of a Change of Address, so ya got screwed on that one too.

As far as the plate ticket they will probably double the administrative fee for your license plate ticket.

He popped my hood before he looked at the VIN. Once he saw the VIN wasnt on the dash, he popped it again to check.

I thought you ment having no proof of insurance is a misdemeanor. I also stand corrected, a Peace Officer can tow your vehicle for not having a VIN plate on your vehicle (10751(d) CVC). One of the Captin's in my department towed a drug dealer's car for the same violation, but I thought it was some technicallity BS. I looked it up for you, so no harm no foul on the officers part.

Thankyou for checking into it for me.

Do you know what i can/should do with the damage done to my car by the tow?

My bumper is kinda fuckerd, and the exhaust is scraped/bent up. they didnt write me out anything concerning the condition of the car when it was towed.
