Dude, you better shut the **** up before Jimlab makes you eat your ignorant words. Then again, he'd have nothing to gain from taking your TII. Maybe he could make it into an alternate beater. For when he gets tired of daily driving his Z06.

Hmmmm...must be nice to have the kind of money it takes to daily drive a Z06, seeing as last time I checked that car runs about 50K on the money-meter. I'd personally rather have the TII. And if I had to take a Domestic, to hell with a Corvette, I'm only takin one American supercar and it ain't a Corvette. As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather pay the 78K it would take for the car I want, or take an RX. I don't have the 78K, so guess which one I'm driving? Although I wouldn't mind converting my poor little N/A to a TII

I'm trying to picture an "American Super-car" in the range of $50,000....
what were you thinking?
Mustang Cobra R?
FR500 (good luck!)
Viper?
Lightning?

THE American supercar is still, IMO, the S7. Jesus.

To be honest with you, I'm not even sure what the FR500 or the S7 are. (I didn't get into cars until about a year ago.) I'm not even sure if I know what the Lightning is unless you're talking about the F-150, which I doubt you are. But who hasn't heard of the Viper?

i support the v8 conversion.. ive thought about it a couple times with my first gen... it takes a long time, and alot of fabrication. my dad has a chevy 4.3 under the hood of his n/a 87 rex. its built too, and its ******* beast, ill be glad to post pictures. 3 years have gone into the car, and probably under 3500. sure you can get a 3 rotor, if your a big fan of being HELLA broke. the rx7 is a great chassis, but i about **** my pants when i near redline. you can beat the hell out of chevy's. you can pull a trailer in your seven.. imagine that? theres always going to be some rotor head **** talking the v8/v6, but ****.. who cares, your car, your money.. your power. im a big rotary fan, but image the reliability, torque, and lightness of this combo? good god. i want one in my little fb.. but my 12a runs fine, and its staying there. jsut ******* drop the domestic stuff. if you have a low 11 second seven, and its cost a third of some other 11 second fc's... whast the big deal?

i remember reading an article on how to do a 3-rotor swap into a fc.. you know how much is was on stock turbos? almost 12 grand! for 4-5 grand, you can get a race ready chevy 502 pushing over 500 hp.. sorry.. but good god

I have this gut feeling that some people don't like the Z06 because its domestic. If that is the case..... well its your opinion and you are intitled to it. I can say with confidence that 99% of those who are prejeduce against the Z06 because it was made in america would surely change their mind if they drove one. I just don't understand what is so bad about the Z06? It is a great value when you consider the competition. Even the cars in japan are nipping at its heels in all aspects of performance. I should know, cause I read car and driver(I made a funny).

I have a friend who did the conversion. Threw in a V8 and bored it to 383 C.I.D. threw a 100 shot of nitrous in there, and ill be honest with you, its the fastest car ive been in. the kid drives it on the street too. Last time he took it to the track he ran a 10.7, without spraying. Granted theres no rotary, but still a very very sick car to say the least.

The FR500 is not for sale, and though there are talks of it, I doubt the likelihood of it ever becoming available.

The FR500 is a Ford Racing mustang that has a totally revamped suspension, moving the wheelbase 5 inches forward, and a DOHC 5.0L (I think) making somewhere above 300 hp. Awesome handling car to say the least.

The lightning is, indeed, an F-150. With a blown 5.4L and a very under-rated 380 hp, not to mention brakes and suspension, it is just barely behind a Z06 in performance in every aspect (and its a freaking truck).

The S7, a car developed by saleen putting out 550 hp from a rear-mounted engine. The car has arguably the best aerodynamics of any production car ever made, and a top speed of over 200 mph.
Only 300 or so were made at a cost of $375,000. THE american supercar.
http://www.saleen.com/home/home_set.htm?x=0
click on:
"automobiles", then "SR", then "S7" at the bottom.
Photos and stats are on the page that loads.

MT900 is just a fancy looking corvette. Same performance ranges as the S7, but no where near it's performance in handling.

Scathcart,

You have GOT to be kidding.. Comparing the lightning to the z06 is like comparing a 78 Camaro LT to a 93 RX-7 R1..

Lightning, quarter in ~13.9, AUTOMATIC, 4600lbs, live rear axle, Smaller brakes than the Z06, definitely nose heavy, I just don't see how you can even consider comparing the two.

Yes, both put out over 350 HP, that's about it.

No, but I have been on track with both cars, and have ridden in a Z06 on track, and I can tell you, there is absolutely NO way a lightning can hang with a well driven Z06 on the road course, or in an auto-x. Dragstrip, if the article I just read is correct (13.9 in the 1/4), my Trans Am killed it stock, let alone a Z06.

If you have the capabilities, facilities and budget do it. If you are under the impression you are going to do it for 1000 in 2 weekends in mommies driveway with your buds; leave the car alone

You have been called out by a few people so far. Haven't heard back from you since your ingenious remarks. Add me to the list, unless you have already raced someone and are now car-less. You shouldn't have a problem racing me, as I only have a V6. Oh, and my girlfriend is really hot, no really!

Here are some easy guidelines to follow.

I'll meet you at a track between you and Florida.
Car must be driven to the agreed track.
Car must be owned by you. (bring your title and I'll bring my girlfriend)

Does your TurboII have nice paint? How is the interior? I am really interested in your challenge.

P.S. After I get your car home, I can arrange to have your TurboII motor and trans shipped back to you... I just want the shell

Thanks!

I feel sorry for that poor RX-7 you raped. Putting anything other than a rotary in an RX-7 is just plain wrong. Keep your engine and send me your shell, do the world a favor.

We've covered this pretty well.
What's next?
Sex?
Religion?
Bill Clinton?
Type "R" stickers?

PS; I have built a 20B FC, and it cost an ungodly amount of money.
My V8 7 still walks circles around it for a third the cost. And detonation doesn't equal a engine rebuild in the V8.

i say if you have the means go for it be prepard for a little frabication, if you can get some aluminum heads the engine will actually weigh less by 25 pounds or so.

Actually, that was only for Bogusfile and his $3000 400 hp engine, but we can discuss this.

My terms:
- My new motor against your new motor
- any forced induction legal
- any suspension set-up legal
- must meet NHRA specs for your time frame

If you knew any history about this car I 'raped', you would know that it was on it's way to the crusher b/c it had no motor and no transmission (gee I wonder why). I bought it for $200 and brought the thing back to life. You could even see it as an act of flattery as this ratty SE that I raped can easily drive past 99% of the cars on the streets today. Doesn't matter if it's a Z06, FBody, Mustang, or Viper... all cars that a hopped up RX-7 guy only dreams of giving someone a run. Gas mileage, reliability, availability of engine parts and performance have all been increased 10 fold over the engine that was in there.

I am amazed at how close minded some people can be about things. Especially things they are ignorant about.

Here are some of my favorites, b/c I know they are coming:

"But it the car doesn't handle like it's supposed to.. Yes it does. Why wouldn't it? The Buick V6 weighs the same if not less than the rotary"

"The cars 50/50 balance is now ruined! No it's not, and I think it's even lighter then when it had the rotarty (2960# now)." Yes I have A/C, PS, Heat, Stereo, Full exhaust, steel hood, all my seats, carpet and heavy TurboII wheels.....

"But the whole engine is in front of the front wheels and that makes it handle bad". No, sorry.. the whole engine is behind the front wheels which is great for handling and especially launching at the track....

"You took the 'heart' out of the RX-7 and destroyed the car!" It was a sick heart and I replaced it with a far superior unit..

Too bad you live so far away, I would offer a friendly ride in the car just to let you see the other side of the fence. BYOBVD's.

I am not here to convert anyone. Just here to clear my name as a 'rapist'...
