LT1 in an FC
A friend of mine wants to put an LT1 into his NA FC. A guy he spoke to insists that this is an easy task, but I think the complete opposite. Does anyone here actually have this setup? I am thinking that just mounting the engine in the car alone will be hassle enough, but -- transmission? rear end? driveshaft? the horrific nightmare of wiring?
Did those of you who did this swap already end up with climate controls that do not work anymore, interior electronics awry, etc? How did you handle it.
I just don't think this can be done for reasonable cheap. I told him to get a TII swap but it seems his heart is set on this motor.

its not a difficult swap, especially if you are just doing a motor swap and not an entire car buildup (susp.brakes/interior/etc)
I built my LS1 T56 FC but the LT1 swap is very similar. bolting up the transmission to the chassis is super simple. you should use a TII rear end (diff and halfshafts) and that will hold up just fine. you can have a steel or aluminum driveshaft made by any reputable driveshaft shop for pretty cheap ($100 steel, $250 aluminum) and that bolts right up without mods to the chassis. um, there is no "horrific nightmare of wiring" like you mention... there are only a dozen wires to connect and only half of those go to the rx7 chassis wiring.
the only electronics that do not work on my swap is the stock FC speedo. I did not use the stock oil pressure gauge or water temp gage in the FC cluster because they are inaccurate enough for me to not bother, although I did buy an aftermarket water temp gage to keep an eye on water temps, that is the one thing I wanted to keep an eye on. my fuel gage works and the tach works and the voltmeter works. to get the speedo to work you can buy an electronic to mechanical/cable converter box or buy an electronic speedo and install that in the cluster. I will be buying a $120 electronic speedo to get mine to have a complete cluster.
this can be done for reasonably cheap, like $2500 total for the swap to be drivable.
there is as much work involved in converting to a Tii from n/a.
