Well, you know... the other car had one of those turbos, and made, like, 650 RWHP, so you, umm... double that because it has, like, two of them.

Hey, don't make me out to sound like a retard. I'm just telling you guys what I was told. "We're estimating that it should make around 1200 hp." I don't see what's so unbelievable about 1200 hp though. 1200 crank hp = 1020 whp assuming 15% drivetrain loss. By no means am I claiming to be an expert on forced induction LS1s; however, the horsepower estimate does seem plausible if not probable. An efficient air-to-water intercooler setup chilling twice the volume of air that made 650 whp seems like it could get damn near close to 1000 whp.

One turbo will be plenty for me though. 600ish whp should be more than enough to make getting traction impossible.

If not 1200 crank, what's your guess, Jim?

I've seen that 62-1 single LS1 run on the 1/4 mile track and ran low 10s all day long.
And sounded quieter than my pretty much stock fd.

It had full interior with stock rims and drag radials in hot summer alabama weather.

It took 650rwhp to get those times?! I recall a couple rx7's hitting 10's with ~450rwhp. I could be mistaken, so someone correct me if i'm wrong. I think Kevin was one of them?!

I never dyno'd my car, always track or street tuned, more accurate. I can only guess what HP numbers were based on the weight of the car and the 125mph peak in the 1/4. 650rwhp should put the car easily into the 9's although someone mentioned he uses a 390 rear. There's a lot involved in ET's though. He could have really crap 60' times and monster MPH on those low 10's. Either way it's faster than mine was.

I don't quite remember what the mph was but I'll try to find out.

I've found a pic of one of the run. I guess he didn't run low 10s..

It ran 10.6 @ 132MPH..

Hey Phil,
Hinson said he is going to inform me when that take it out to the track. Also, you were referring to the Hot Rod shootout right? I would definitely be up for that. I can talk to Hinson and see when it will be. I have no clue about when and where it is going to be. Heard there was going to be some crazy fast cars there.

I sat with the guys from Hinson's during dinner at Deals Gap. They had the motor and drivetrain out of the car on Wednesday to fix some issues. They barely got it together in time, which explains why they didn't get the bumper put on. He gets the 1200hp out of the twins and a nitrous kit. I don't think he hit the nitrous on Saturday. The reason it sounds so bad is that the exhaust was dumping after the 4" downpipe under the passenger seat. He has been building this car for quite sometime and has had nothing break. They are going to try to Dyno the car this week. Pretty impressive to have a car be IHRA certified and street legal!

Getting a well built LS1 into 800-900 HP is easy with a proper setup on just heads and cam with a little giggle juice. Just say to each his own and wait for dyno numbers and ETs. I know a guy with an all motor 8 second car. Hell, with a TT setup and a little money, anything is possible.

If a NA LS1 FD with no accessories weighs in at just over 2800, how is a full interior LS1 FD with two LARGE turbos that aren't featherweights, piping, and a IC going to weigh the same? How is the handling with the turbos up that far forward?

From what I understand of the Hinson car's current state, the KSP TT 13B FD still remains faster.

Who really gives a **** about 1/4 mile times? I'd be more worried about assclowns building cars like this and then killing someone.

It's a neat project. Good craftsmanship, and has potential. Let's leave the HP numbers out of it shall we? Cause god knows the torque alone will scare the **** out of anyone with a 4-500 HP FD.. And then rape them.

I know of one LS1/FD running mid tens on a 75shot, and another running 11.4 on a shitty track, CA smog legal cam only...

You know, we'll see how Hinson does at the Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags, and roll with that...

BTW - you know what would be absolutely wonderful? If Hinson wins the thing, there will be a RX7 on the cover of Hot Rod. People will **** their pants like you wont believe!

An RX7 with an LS1 isn't smog legal anywhere in California as far as I'm aware. How does that work in areas with smog testing and inspections since it's not legal to tamper with OEM smog systems let alone swapping a motor type?

On an oddball note, is it just me or is that drag strip downhill??? Fluke from how the camera is held or something?

edit: think it might be the uphill slow down segment is making the picture look downhill.

I don't think it goes downhill all the way, but it looks like there is a "hump" in the strip if you look at the left of the picture. After the "hump" it looks like it goes downhill. I don't think it has anything to do with the camera, prlly just a shitty track.

-Alex

Edit: I don't think so. If you look at the track, its going down, then back up towards the end. Kind of like it's wanting to make a U.

I have been trying not to say anything about this thing .. but 4 pages in such a short time ? I have to put my querys in .
There are many thing that i have questions about this car . Running low 8 ? 1200hp ? i will believe that when i see it but how does putting in a heavier engine help in getting you get lower 1/4 times . Just think chassis+LS1+twinturbo+intercooler+misc= more than 2800lbs i am thinking more like 3000+lbs .

Unless he is thinking of traveling only in a straight line on the streets , he might have some serious bumpsteer issues. Hope he seam welded and added support for the suspension mountings with all that extra weight in front .

ps; this thread should really but in the other engine conversions sub forum , not here ..

haha..it would seem like i be hating huh ... at least it makes a good noise when started and running .... even with a poor tune
