Right Click, Save As

The Deal's Gap meet was awesome. Seeing this car made it even better.

The question should be why use a Vette when you can do it with a car that weighs at least 300 lbs less (than a Z06) and costs much less.

I was told that this setup was just completed last week. I'm sure it will be at the strip very soon though. 8 second quarter miles anyone?

Not hating but the way we saw it run it wasnt very impressive. I am sure once it is tuned it will be totally different but for "1200 hp" I wasnt impressed. Not hating at all because I love the idea of LS1 swaps but I would have rather seen them bring a heads, cam car on spray that ran correctly. I think it would have been more entertaining to watch.
However, I cant wait to see what times he posts once tuned.

I can vouch for that monster TT FD. Hinson still has some bugs to sort out. But when they get everything situated, they hope to run mid to low 8's. That is with full interior, radio, carpet, and etc.

By the way Alan, nice meeting you man. I hope next meet you can bring your car. I would like to check it out. See ya man...

djseven,
Hinson said he wish he could have gotten it ready sooner, but they just got it first cranked a couple of days before Deal's Gap. Also, they got invited to the Hot Rod Street competition and I believe that is what they were shooting for, but was just giving us a glimpse of what to come.

I think it looks and sounds like $hit. Moves pretty good.
What's the deal with projected hp?

I completely understand that. Hints my comments. However, what I saw wasnt a 1200hp car. Potentially yes but not when I saw it. I am in no way hating on the car. IT is badass in every sense of the word but I dont want people thinking that that is all the car had. The video that is posted wont do that car justice in the future. Thats all.

Someone finsihed one of those LS1 conversions here in SD a few months ago. I've only seen it once so I am not sure if its turbo'd. The girlfriend did say it pops up when its gunned at a light.
They do sound pretty strange, and meaner

Yes, the car was definitely not running to potential. I understand what you're saying djseven. I can see where bringing a well-running car is a better idea, but just looking under the hood is badass with that thing.

The difference is not that much lighter. A toruing FD is aobut 2800-2900lbs. Im not sure but I bet the LS1 motor wieghs more than the 13b also. z06 is only about 3000lbs. Why not jsut shave the weight anyway by removing the interior, its a race car is it not? Why bother with full interior if your building a 8 second car?

Anyway, for all that work, converson and money there isnt much "mazda" left in the car as of performance. He probably has a ford rear end/drivetrain. SO with all these parts and extra, I dont see the point of putting it in the FD other than for a personal challenge or headache.

To each his own.

To each his own.

A Z06 weighs at least 3100 lbs (closer to 3150). A regular C5 weighs over 3300 lbs. An LS1 FD weighs about 2800 lbs.

There are reasons why the car still has interior and resembles a street car. I'll let your imagination run wild there. That car was virtually untuned and running NO exhaust. It will quiet down SUBSTANTIALLY when tuned and running a full exhaust.

It does not have a Ford rear end. Mazda rear end with Kaaz and 3.9 gear.

I rode in a Touring with a nearly bone-stock LS1. It was VERY fast, and handled quite well considering it was riding on stock suspension on stock wheels.

But you're right...At the end of they day, to each his own.

"The Point" of putting an LS1 in the FD? It depends on who you ask. My reason is that the 13B will not achieve the horsepower that I want with the reliability and driveability that I demand.

I totally agree. If (when) my 13B goes (again) I will replace with a LS1. Hopefully that wont be anytime soon.

Badass car. I would love to have a full interior car that runs 8s on pump. That would rock.

A Kaaz rear end isn't going to stay together with 1200hp, neither will half the other parts on the car. It'll be interesting to hear what starts breaking when he gets above 600hp.

Can't wait to see more progress on the car. It would be REALLY nice to see it in street trim.. well, with AT LEAST an exhaust.. I love power, but will compromise for less db.

I was expecting something much cooler than what was shown on that video. Has anyone got some engine bay pics to post?

I'd have to agree, it wasn't a good idea for them to even let people take pictures of it. It looks like a POS with no front clip etc. and seems to sit too high off the ground, like a 4x4.

I looked around at their website and couldn't find anything other than the RX7 stuff. Anybody have links to previous cars they've built with 1200hp dyno'd? or 8 second cars for that matter?

AFAIK, this is the first twin turbo setup they've done. Another Turbo LS1 they did made like 650whp at 15 psi with one 62-1. That car is running 2 of them.

That's a LONG WAY from 1200hp.
