Na 6 Port Dynoed At 152whp, Details Inside

after tunning the car on the street took it to the car to the dyno to do any of the fine tune adjustments and to see what power we would put down. this was a S5 stock port mazda reman that was already in the car when the new owner purchased the car. after the few very milid modifications the afc was put on so the air fuel could be adjusted for the mods.

wner: justin behrendt

relevant mods:

apexi afc
stock exhaust manifold
RB downpipe
straight pipe
RB catback
HKS drop in filter
removed 6 port sleeves

What A/F ratios did you use?

Do A/F ratios tend to stay the same throughout the RPM band in all gears? As far as tuning, is that what you normally try to do?

it might change a bit thru every gear, since the load on the engine changes, but it should be very close, its a good idea to run the engine in the highest gear to check what the afr are. i dont reccomend doing this on the dyno as the road results will vary by a good margin the longer the car is running on the dyno.

i usually tune the cars on the street, and then head to the dyno to see how teh car behaves and if its puttign down expected numbers. it is also nice to see that the powerband is smooth and there are no breakups. but experienced tuners will feel pretty much everything the dyno will tell you anyay, evnthough its still a good backup. i do not like tunning on the dyno only as this is not very accurate byitself (dont bother arguing with me on this)
i normaly would dyno an NA fc in 3rd gear and a turbo one in 4th, it depends on the setup of the car and many other factors as turbo size, intercooler size and so on.

152 is good considering what mods the car has. we did 170rwhp with what you have plus an RB header and lots of very minor adjustments. especially to that damn afm. not bad tho, get a heaaader!!!!

normally properly running NAs put down 125wtq but this one did 113. this is the second NA car i have dynoed within last 2 months, and both tq figures were 113. the other car has dynoed 125wtq as well as more power closer to winter when it was colder outside. so i tend to belive that this car woudl put down over 160whp if it would have been colder outside. 170 even with a header seems hard to belive. is that car ported any? anything at all done internally to the motor? adjustments to the afm?

From what I remember he had a little more than that. Like underdrive main/alt pulley and a cone filter for example. And from what I remember no dyno graph was proven and the last thing he quoted was 162whp with no graph, and just "assumed" it was over 170 after that? I could be wrong but nothing has ever been produced by him from what I remember.

Pretty goood numbers, since there have been worse,
was there any significant gains after tuning with the safc?

dDub: yes he has a dyno graph for the 162 and that was with it running semi- crappy. made more afm adjustments and better grounds and the car came to life. i dont know if he still has the dyno graph from after that. but 160rwhp is very do-able with ease. no porting neccessary.

This is the thread where he claimed the 162, he said he would post a dyno graph the next day, nothing was ever posted https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-dyno-128/88-gxl-3rd-dyno-run-374450/

Here's the prior one where he said 149, no graph https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-dyno-128/88-gxl-second-dyno-347479/

And here's the very first post he made about a dyno where it shows 135rwhp, though he says it'd be about 150 on a dynojet, just speculation though https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-dyno-128/88-gxl-dyno-344830/

So unless I'm missing something, no graph, except the first one, was EVER posted by him. All you two have ever really posted was your guess on what it felt like from the way I'm reading old posts of his and updates. If there's a graph out there of his 162, please point me to it because I'm not finding it anywhere.
