First 3 trips, ever, 1/4 86 GXL

86 GXL, TII hood, suspension, and no cats.. downpipe to presilencer to Y to lil cannons

Island Dragway - Rotorfest 2005 baby

Run 1:

R/T - .775
60' - 2.465
330 - 7.068
1/8 - 10.929
MPH - 63.43
1000 - 14.260
1/4 - 17.095
MPH - 79.97

Run 2:

R/T - .642
60' - 2.371
330 - 6.973
1/8 - 10.833
MPH - 63.61
1000 - 14.170
1/4 - 16.984
MPH - 80.29

Run 3: I sorta missed 3rd really bad on this one.. I was trying out some power shifting, 2nd went great, 3rd wasn't so happy.. grind grind grind

R/T - .567
60' - 2.385
330 - 6.953
1/8 - 10.994
MPH - 57.68
1000 - 14.568
1/4 - 17.528
MPH - 77.10

Had a ton of fun, but decided to call it quits after three. I was the only N/A running as far as I could tell and I think I was getting boo'd because they thought it was a slow *** TII =P. I didn't have anything to tune either, so I have pre-mod times, NOW it's time to start spending some $$$$.

Free up your aux ports! A 2.3x 60' with dececnt shifting should be good for ~16.2 on a stock GXL. My Sport with only an exhaust and wired open ports was good for a 15.5 with a crappy 2.3ish 60'.

yeah the t2 hood on a NA is purely for looks and actually works against you cooling system and does not help it. But yes the NA 2nd is a fun car in the corners or a SCCA day but it is not a drag car by any stretch of the amagination. If you are dead set on building a faster car in the 1320 you will need forced induction or more cubic inches. But it basically comes down to what you want out of a almost 20 year old sports car that sells for about 2 grand.

Hmmm, I'll see what I can do about cleaning out the secondaries. I was still carrying all my weight with me (spare tire, stereo, tools, etc.)

As for the TII hood, is it hurting me more than my heavy *** NA hood? I'd like to purchase an aluminum NA hood, but I don't have the $$$... I'm also thinking about one day going with the big fat SC and a huge intake/TB popping out the hood, so TII hood is good for keeping my dreams alive.

Anyways, I ran that day to get pre-supercharger times to compare when I finally get this puppy runnin some boost. I'm quite excited to get my project going, unfortunately I'm having to shove moeny into my 88 Vert so I have another daily driver ready if I pop this motor

I'm giving the vert to my girl. It just doesn't look sporty enough to be my booster. I told her I wanted to make it a sleeper (I mean seriously, our verts do NOT look like beasts) but she had a fit because she can't handle the power. I'll probably charge that puppy and put an electric clutch on the charger so I can turn it on and off. Maybe I'll turbo it (don't ask me why I hate turbos, I'm not sure) but then she'd be lucky if she ever boosted.

Once the GXL has boost, it'll be my daily driver again, I just want to make sure I got backup in case it goes kablooie

This plus this equals sleeper and will look plenty meaner than some gxl. Hook up the vert and give the girl the gxl.

Something about the hatchback screams "sporty" vs. the vert. I think the coupes just have a meaner stance. That and the vert needs alot of $$$'s worth of work to be more than a daily driver. The seats are fugly and ripped up (the head rest speakers work though!) and the car is just an overall mess. The *** end of my coupe is alot hotter than the vert, I mean, if I'm gonna blow by someone, I want them to see how nice mah *** looks =)

On to questions, I'm looking towards the future and fuel upgrades to support my supercharger(s). I plan to begin with a modest 6psi charger and work my way towards whatever our engines can safely withstand (anyone got a number on that?). I'd like to know what kind of injectors I should be looking at for max boost (number ???) plus a 75-150 shot of Nitrous. I'd rather just get the right injectors now. I plan to run a Megasquirt or other standalone when I reach my stock ECU's limitations (which are quite limited). I'd like to run an SAFC for the time being on 6psi and upgrade when I become a boost junkie.

don't expect to be "blowing" by a whole lot of people with a bolt on supercharger. A few forum members have tried this and not even broke 200 rwhp. I think the supercharger thing has been a proved looser on a 13b na second. Good luck with your

16.9 is about what i could get out of my car with similar mods too. I was actually happy with it because my fastest time was 18.2 the last and first time I went. Oh well, being reliable has its downsides.

Definitely didn't plan on using the bolt-on. Way too fuggin expensive for such low gains. Like I said, I'd like to start with a small blower to get the hang of setting up my car (fuel and such) and then move up to a nice big whipple or something else and a huge throttle body/scoop stickin out the hood of my car.

Can we say *drool*

Ok, pull up to the line. Toss it in Neutral and rev that puppy up. Turn it off. Quickly get out of the car, get your jack and jackstands and get her up in the air, remove tranny and flywheel. Install manual flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and manual tranny. Turn car on, Launch away.

Wait for the second yellow. Mash the gas pedal. Cry when the board lights up "18.5@72"

^^^LOL^^^ i know, i know, but the car came like that, it was a gift from my father, beside the tranny only has like 500 mile since the rebuild, so i will wait till i mess that one up, then ill go 5-speed.

It was crazy hot the day I ran. I also checked out my 5/6 ports and i think my actuators are actually stuck. They're really hard to move. So I think I'm going to nail them with some WD and see if they'll move a little easier. Nice time. You got a slip? What were your low end numbers?

I'd say those are acurate times.

my 88 SE ran a 17.4 consistantly.
My 88 GTU ran a 17.1 as well.

I now run a 14.9

So I took off my aux. port actuators and hit them and the levers with some WD. Made sure everything was moving real nice then took the car out for a drive. Definitely pulled alot harder throughout the entire rpm range instead of bogging out. However, after a goofing off for a bit it went back to semi-sorta powerless at the top of the gears. What are my best options?? Are these things having a hard time opening as the car heats up? Driving me nuts I tell ya.

Demonic...I was there the day that you ran and actually you made me more proud than anyone else there (no offense). All of your runs were very consistent (I thought you and the other guy both should take off the manifolds and clean them so the 6 ports worked right)...so were the other guys who you raced. Once the ports are fixed I think your car will be fine. Then again with an S/C (stay N/A ) your car will be fine too. Either way good luck...and please make sure you tune the ECU (I don't mean AFC either) after you put the S/C on there (even if you don't) otherwise it's just pointless.

Thanks Kiyo, not sure what other guy you're talking about? I didn't see any other NA's there except during the non-rotary runs. There was a grey one and umm I think a white one. I have some video of them.

As for the SC, I pretty much plan to go Megasquirt with it. There are other ways to tune the ECU besides AFC? I'd prefer to get rid of it entirely. If response on an NA is better with a MS, I'm sure it'll be hella awesome with the SC on it.

Thanks for your kind words, I was pleased with my car off the line. I ran against 2 TII's, and beat em both off the line, so I was happy about that. Besides, the best part of the day was getting to know some of the guys from the area =)
