For all the NA guys who wanna know what things do...

My car is an 87 NA. I bought it with gutted cats and non working 5th 6th ports. A few vaccume leaks and so on. Got everything cleaned up and running properly, then off to the dyno. I believe i originally pulled 135.8Whp and 122Tq, but ill upload the dyno sheets when i get to the house later tonight or possibly tomorrow. Mods are as follows:
1. Gutted Cats
2. K&n cone filter
3. Non working ports (closed)

I currently installed a few things and dyno'd again last night. New number are 145.77Whp at 123Tq. New mods added are as follows:
1. Racing beat collected single, 2.5 inch custom piping to RB muffler.
2. Home depot built 5th 6th port actuator tied into stock air pump with manual adjust valve. (i assume their working now, can definately feel a difference in the 3800+ range)
3. Koyo Radiator
4. Secondary throttle butterfly plates removed (shaft still in)
5. Apexi Safc

First run with the RB custom exhaust was 136, after a few runs we were at a consistent 145. Next will be running the intake through the bumper to the ambient air. Custom intake piping (preparation for the front mount). New custom clutch and lightened Flywheel. Will keep adding up sheets and mods as i go, however i will eventually boost the 7, as i have 85% of everything needed sitting in my living room.

Yeah there's not much more you can do power-wise without messing with the motor internally. On my s4 GTU I hit 172rwhp on a dynojet but that had a streetport along with T2 rotor housings/sleeves.

and yes, using the stock airpump for the aux ports is the way to go. I had an electric pump but it's just not reliable enough.

remove the 5th and 6th port actuator rods, and remove the 5th and 6th ports themselves.

put the stock snorkel system back on.

Also, cut out the top of the brake cooling duct. The filter will get dirty QUICK, but its a noticeable increase in power.

Radiator is installed just like the factory one was. The intake is being re routed to infront of the radiator via the holes under the headlights where the wires go. (Remove rubber caps, open hole to intake pipe size, pad and re run wires for lights). I will be installing the pineapple sleeves this weekend, along with 255 pump, fpr, and 550cc injectors. Turbo is on the way, just need to tap front cover, and run intercooler piping.

Debating porting na mani or just installing the T2 mani i have... tho ill probably wait for that. i have to pull another engine and trans tomorrow b4 the track and need to get some of this stuff done. I will keep you guys updated. Willalso post dyno sheets (sorry ive been slacking, works been crazy)

How does that much NA horsepower compare to turbo horsepower? Do you feel a kick of power?

I can feel when the ports open up, and i can feel when the car starts to make power. It definately feels laggy till about 2800rpm. Then you can actually feel the car pull a lil bit and continue pulling till the ports open. Then not only can you feel a difference but you can here it as well.

I apologize for slacking so badly, things have been getting even crazier for me. I will see about getting the graphs up for real this week. Today i changed the exhaust and went Rb collected race pipe, with a 2.5 collector to a 3inch Dynomax super turbo. Sounds a bit louder, but i like it. Seems to get a lil better throttle response throughout the rev range but everythings been wet so it may just be tire slippage. I will try and get back to the dyno soon, but id like to get the 5th 6th port sleeves in 1st... and maybe port match the intake... Those damn vacume lines are a PITA tho!

More info to come, but for now, im happy with my choice.

Cool stuff man, I made a CAI and put the cone where the washer bottle was, I felt a difference, not much power but the car defiantly ran smoother, a lot better throttle response.

Ok so here is a quick update of things to do. Its a lil scattered just like the rest of my thoughts but it should give you an idea of whats taking place.

Install, break in, and dyno clutch/flywheel combo. (dual friction organic/kevlar clutch with 8 pound fidanza flywheel). Install 5th/6th port sleeves, Dyno car. (Was at 146 with old setup, looking for >160whp).

These are the remaining things on my To Do list for July.

Recieve and plumb all intercooler piping, prep S4 front cover, build turbo oil line.
Install turbo manis, turbo, custom downpipe, fuel system (255 pump, 4 550cc injectors, aeromotive reg), connect all the lines/hoses/pipes, dyno/tune car.

Looking to have all of this done by July 31st, just in time to take a trip to hollywood, and will be dialing in this setup for Lakeland at JDM UPS Tampa VS Orlando showdown on the 28th of Aug.

... and about a 40-45* drop in IAT's, too.

I liked this thread at 1st, cause we were talking about NA mods an all that. But then you mentioned you are going turbo.
wtf man? Wheres the NA pride? lqtm.

Im j/k.

Anyway.
Ive had my gtu, NA for years and it still is.
It had an s5 motor in it for most of its life so far.
I had it dynoed, with (I think) RB mufflers, off brand per-silencer, a cone air filter, and removed AC parts, at the time. Made 130rwhp, 120rwtq.

Later years I added a RB pre-silencer, removed emissions, removed 5th&6th actuator rods & sleeves, wired open vdi, and heat shielding for the cone air filter, also clutch masters stage 2 clutch.
With this setup, the 3-4k rpm hesitations disappeared, and it just went smooth all the way up.
Still slow but smooth. lqtm.

I now have a half bridge port (hbp) s4 motor in it.
I haven't made a build thread on this forum yet, but there's one on the other forum.
Basically the only differences from the previous setup are:
s4 hbp motor (duh), 550's in the primaries, removed PS belt, tii hood.
With this setup, it could walk my previous setup anytime. Smooth drivability disappeared, gas mileage sucks, actually a bit louder than before, runs hotter than before, and really pulls fast in the upper rpm range, also revs like a cat running from a ****-off dog.

Future plans are: Megasquirt, various heat shielding, maybe an e-fan.

But I have to admit I have a turbo setup waiting. But not until I''m sick of this NA beast.

^ I wish i had another 7 to play with, and just max out the NA. Build custom manifolds for my application and test and tune all the time. It would be awesome to hit the 200 whp mark on stock ports without FI, but i honestly dont have the cash to do that and im SO tired of grocery getting hondas with ebay turbo kits acting like idiots because they can put down 220whp and beat up on my 23 year old, almost stock 7.

However, i do like the fact that my 7, as it sits, eats Tegs and preludes with more work done than i have Its always a good feeling.... but im tired of high school kids and their beaters. I wanna start taking on skittles and the occasional rally car. Turbo's the only way to go (and maintain the rotary) in order to keep it as a daily ad still have enough pep to make me happy

BTW here it is monday morning and i havent had the chance to put in the sleeves.... or do anything with the fuel system.... looks like the dyno may just be with the new exhaust. The car still has stock timing, although ive been contemplating advancing that a lil. I do have 4 new plugs to put in before the dyno time... and maybe an oil change? But the clutch and flywheel arent done yet, and im not sure how well the one i have now will hold. it slips here an there when i get on it hard.... Results to follow in a lil.

Stumbled across this searching for ideas for tomorrows dyno session.
https://www.rx7club.com/megasquirt-forum-153/196-rwhp-na-street-port-fuel-map-783972/
It may give you a good idea of what to expect/where to start

OK well today's dyno session was interesting. So to start off. Things different from the last run. I have installed the electric fan. Im running BUR9EQP plugs in both lead and trail (prep for turbo), before i had BUR7EQP in all. I had 16 rims on the car this time (left rear blew out on the 15's and i threw the 16s on instead of a donut) and 15's on last time. It was also 20* hotter today than it was on the last pull. Now enough excuses....

With my current exhaust setup im now sitting at 131Whp and 138ft pounds of torque! I know what your thinking... how did he go up in exhaust pipe size and lose top end but gain torque? I found it humorous that i lost in top end what i gained in torque. Not exactly sure how that relates to anything, but i think it may explain why im getting thru the rev range faster now?

Ok so info about the exhaust. I am still using the RB collected race header, ceramic coated, running into a 2.5 collector... which now expands into a 3 inch collector... which travels 3 inches to a 3inch Dynomax muffler. The dynomax is a super turbo, 3in 3out. Its not a straight thru design (thus the increase in torque, as its mounted right at the end of the header) and then 3in piping from the outlet to the bumper (thus my assumption of the loss in top end...)

So, next week i will return to the dyno. I will have advance timing, and possibly gasket matched intakes with pineapple sleeves (i really hate those vacume line!) and a modified exhaust.

The FMIC arrived today while i was on the Dyno, so in the next few weeks, i will be posting high comp turbo numbers on a stock T2 setup (T2 manis, turbo, FMIC, 255 pump, 550cc, 3in exhaust).

^ I cant wait. Im plumbing all of my piping for the FMIC tomorrow and prepping the T2 manifold as well. My buddy who already has his NA turbo (9.5pounds) is pushing me to just boost the thing already and stop messing around with the NA stuff... I have all the pieces except the downpipe, and i want to run a recirculating BOV (or a bypass valve) instead of the BOV i have... but for now im not gonna be to picky. I just wanna see mid 200 at the wheel.
