yeah Mas I hear yah. I am not setting mine up for "all" out drag so if I can get low 11's I will be more than happy.
And Martin you should be able to find some 9 second rx's in orlando. When I lived in Jax beach their were some serious rx drag racers driving to the track with their car because FL doesn't have inspection so you can run about anything you want and it will be street legal.

Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to be a smart ***, so I hope no one took it that way.
By "Street RX7" I was assuming an actually streetable RX7. I'm talking full, comfortable interior, and something that can drive 500 miles on a whim, and actually use gas you can buy at a gas station. That's my definition of street car anyway. Something that runs on 110 octane, with so much cage that you have to lather up in vasoline to get in and out of the bare metal interior isn't "street" in my book, even if you put a plate on it.
Now, I'm not saying there aren't rotary 7's like that, but I'm just curious how "street" the ones being discussed here are. Like I said, not talking crap, just piqued my curiousity.
edit: Oh, and my goals for my car are 9.9 second 1/4, and 1.0g skidpad, full interior. It's well within reason, but not happening any time soon. (turbo engine, full suspension, widebody)

I know, I live in FL. Which is why I was asking. Just because something has a cage or has less interior than the car came with, doesnt make it less of a street car. MY vert for example, no ac, no radio, but doesnt mean its less streetable. Even though I didnt take them out because of weight. But a cage is necessary at those times, so even though you dont usually take your car to the track, if you want to run again you need a cage.
I dont have a problem with yall swapping chevy motors in your car, after all its what you choose to swap in. But I personally have seen 2 rx7s with SBC's run against one of my friends with a stock port motor, and has beaten them. One of them was on a 75shot. Theres even a vid on streetfire, where one gets beat by a z28. Theres no point in spending all that time and money, to just get slapped around. But its your time, money, and car.

Regardless, I agree with what you're saying about street cars for the most part. There is a point (which I suppose is subject to opinion) where it just becomes NOT a street car, but rather, simply streetable. There is a guy driving around my town with an S10 that run's LOW 9's. It chirps the tires turning corners because of the rear end/slicks, and it takes him 10 minutes to get in and out of the damn thing. That's NOT a street car.

9 should be easier for a 400/400 hp/tq throw in some nitrous and a little r&d into the suspension and I would say 10's all day with the dips into the 9's with street legal tires. And yes I agree with you n whats a street car and whats not. Getting into the car "dukes of hazard style" is not a street car. don't get me wrong I am a fan of the rotary but I don't pretend that the pistons don't own the drag strip. Good luck digital and get some vid of that badboy

First day I ever went to the 1/4 mile track I saw a burnt orange FD running slicks run a 9.8... It looked nearly stock on the exterior except for what I've already mentioned.
I wish I would've known more about it's setup and whether or not it was a strictly track car...
It was so sick though, because it only ran once during the day and hit a 10.2. We had all totally forgetten about it and were just enjoying the MkIV Supra's, Evo's etc. when they had the 'tournament' part of the day. It was an elimination bracket deal, but the LAST "street" cars to run were a charcoal MkIV Supra with a parachute, slicks etc. against the FD!!! It was sweet because it was so meant to be. The sun was setting, the engines were revving and a hush fell over the crowd as these two iconic and rival cars lined up for the final race, lol.
The Supra ran a 10.1 and the Rx7 ran the 9.8.
SWEET.
