So what exactly happened to the rear iron? Is it a symptom in FC blocks in general or is it S4 or S5 specific? Those are some crazy numbers for the turbo and stock (intake) ports. How much porting was done on the exhaust?

The casting on those dowel lands get fatter through each generation. S4 being the smallest, S5 being larger, some late S5 being the same size as an FD iron with a little gusset reinforcment.

Turned out to be a bad msd box that did it...

yea but it is possible to survive preignition with the stud kit or dowelling. the S4 irons are craptastic.
