wouldn't you agree?

those rear tires aren't cuttin it, too small its a 255 on there now, the rim is 9" wide.......will 275 be too big? was thinking maybe have to roll in that lip on the inside of the fenders?

it looks good, nice offset. i dont think 275 would work well on a 9" rim. most of what i've found for 275 is a 10" rim. 265 for a 9.5" rim. i want the biggest i can get...lol jk

It's not the ideal size for 275's, but a 9" rim will definately work and (IMO) doesn't look weird like some people say it does. I had 17x9" wheels on my '69 Camaro w/ 275/40-17s and i think they looked pretty good. You can see them here for yourself:

I say go for it.

BTW, what offset are those rims??? I agree w/ silverTRD...they look nice.

It's hard for me to see the picture clearly, but if your 255 is stretched on a 9-inch rim, then 1 of 2 things is true -- it's not a 255 tire or the wheel is bigger than 9-inches. A 255 tire is a perfect fit for a 9" rim. 265 is certainly also an acceptable fitment, but 275 is a bit under-supported, IMO.

I'm going to agree with rynberg here, I just can't believe that is a 255 on a 9" wide wheel. I am running 255's on my 17x9's and they are no where near that stretched.

I was thinking the same thing. Here is a shot of my 255's on a 9" rim:

after seeing those pics i wonder if its because of the model of tire? they are falken ziex (came with the rims i'd like to get rid of them tho), is it because they have that "curb protector" ? those look perfect mahjik thats what i want mine to look like!

Are you positive those are 9" rims? A 9.5" rim is a very common rear fitment for FDs. The Toyo T1-S is a narrow tire for its size -- here's a 265 on a 9.5" rim. This is pretty much exactly what a 255 T1-S would look like on a 9" rim.

Man, my old brakes look small...

Those rear's gotta be 10's, I was running 265's on a 10" wide wheel and there was a lot less stretch.

Just by looking at the lip size between the front and rear, I would say the rear is most likely 10". Did you buy the rims or did they came with the car?

I think its a bit of an illusion created from a combo of a round-shouldered tire with rim protector bar, and the deep-dish look of the wheel.

I had a firestone SZ50 275/40/17 on a 17x10" Fikse, and it looked similar.

On a 9" wheel, i'd stick w/ a 255/40, maybe a 265/40. I had 275/40/17 on a 9" wheel, and it looked ridiculous, though it was an RE71 that was probably the widest 275 ever made... looked like a 315. Smaller ones like the Toyo might be OK.

Here's a pic of mine with the same rears for comparison. 17x9 +35 with 255/40/17 dunlop sp8000's on em.

The sidewalls are flexing a lot, which is probably why you think it looks stretched. Might just be an illusion.
