If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to know what offset to use w/ 17 x 7 right? +40mm will work. Stock is +42mm I think (been a while)???

i have a 18x9,5 in the rear, with an offset of 25...

now you all recommended tire size 255/35R18, but i found some pirelli P-zeroassymetrico for a nice price... but the problem is that this tire isnt available in that size!

i would have to choose between 255/40R18 or 265/35R18...
with a silkroad coilover kit and without rolled fenders, which of these would be best without rubbing?
or should i just go looking for another tire?

I was looking at the wheel chart on FC3SPro...good stuff there.

I'm looking to run a 275/40/17 rear tire and a 255/40/17 front on my FC. I'm assuming for both that coilovers will be a must?

How about the offset? I'm assuming those tire sizes will be best on a 9.5" in the rear and 8.5" in the front. For the rear, would I want a lower offset, like around 25mm or 20mm because of the 275 width? For the front, I'm thinking the same due to the 255 width of the tire (20-25mm?). This is from my interpretation of the FC3S chart.

I plan to roll the fenders if it is necessary to prevent rubbing. Any thoughts on this?

275 / 40 / 17 has a 3% larger circumference; it's a little too much for my tastes.
Also, 275 is too tight to fit in the back - minimum, you need to roll the rear fenders.

The 255 up front is, IMO, too wide up front for stock fenders.
235 is alright tight.
You might be able to fit some 245's.
But 255 is just about impossible to fit up front.

If you find coilovers that can spin the bottom perch all the way up, that allows only another 1/4" of clearance - not enough to still fit 255's.

8.5" +25 should clear the insides no problem; I cannot guarantee the 255 wide tire will fit - in fact, I would bet against it.
If you got coilovers that allow you to push everything in, you can go up to +30...even maybe +35 on a 8.5" - raising arizona has run a 8" +41 up front.

If you're going to try and fit the 275's in the rear, you need to try and push the wheel as far in as possible.
I would still try and shoot for the 9.5" +25, but you can go down to a +30.

I've got a couple of 9" rears I need to test fit as soon as the weather clears up here...
I'll drop a reply in here with pics to show you what kinda clearance we're working with.

honestly i think that most of the people here are a bit mild on thier wheel fitment

here is my buddies FC

mild rolls on the fenders 17x9 +15 is the highest offset and narrowest wheel he runs

i will be working some 17x9 +0 front and 17x9-15 rear on my car with a more extreme roll/pull

that's one ugly FC, but hey, he's drifting, so it's cool.

I had some 245's mounted to the stock TII rims. It took a 5mm spacer to keep them from rubbing the struts during cornering but it rubbed the fender on heavy bump. Slightly rolled fenders would have solved the issue entirely. 255's? No way Jose'.

Looks like I'll shoot for a 245 width in the front on an 8.5" rim assuming I can get some wheels that I want with the right offsets.

Takumi Project has some wheels I like that are 8" front w/38mm offset and 9" rear w/25mm. If the center is big enough for the FC hub, I might get them. I don't think a 245 would work with such an offset, though.

I would greatly appreciate you posting that info up here. I'd like to get a 275 in the back with the amount of power and torque I plan to be putting down. 10mm probably won't make too much of a difference.

So far the possibilities are looking to be 245 on a 8-8.8" rim up front with a 25mm offset and 275/265 on a 9-9.5" rim in the rear with a 25mm offset.

The coilovers I'm thinking of running are the JIC SF-1.

Another question: you were saying that the chassis woul be "pushing too much" (or something like that) when running a large discrepancy between front and rear tire widths. What exactly do you mean by this?

Thanks.

I don't like the front offset unless you're going to go with the coilovers for more clearance?

Don't worry about the center bore.
Most aftermarket wheels are ~73mm?
The FC runs some of the smallest bores in the industry - right around 60mm.

If you're going to be making that much power, you might want to consider moving up to 18" or even 19" rims?
The larger diameters have much more tire size options to go with.
In 17", you're really stuck with 275's and then jumps up to a very limited selection of 315's.

Understeer.
NASCAR calls it "push".
The tendency for the chassis to overwork the front tires, and this leads to you sliding off the track / road.
Due to the much narrower fronts, the rears don't want to rotate and thus the fronts are just overworked.
The rears have significantly more traction than the fronts, and this just magnefies the problem.

Here's my take on that.... I know for a fact that when I had the same width tires front and rear, I had an oversteer issue. But, only during high speed cornering when lifting off the gas. And rightfully so as this procedure unloads the rear of the car. I like to think of wider rear tires as extra insurance in the event that I have to suddenly let off the gas during hard cornering.

Putting smaller tires on the rear (to better match the front tires) won't make it corner any better on the street. And if you happen to do some spirited driving and take a corner at above the legal limit and you hear your front tires crying for help it's because you've exceeded the capabilities of the front tires. The rear tires have nothing to do with it. You're front tires will have the same limits no matter what size tire is on the rear.

Pushing too much? Over-working the front tires?
Somthing to think about here is that if you're pushing or over-working any tires, you're simply trying to drive the car too hard. However, I must say, balance is very important. It's isn't so important on the street as it is for auto-cross or road racing. Huge rear tires and a tight differential with much skinnier tires in front will most certainly induce a "push" (turn the wheels and car goes straight), especially so in the very sharp corners on an auto-cross course.

And the bottom line is?
Huge rear tires just look cool. And they help you at the strip.

And on the flip side of that....
Bigger tires cost more &
Bigger tires weigh more

OK, there's my rant for the day.

You're absolutely right.
I was assuming too much.
For most "beginner" drivers, going too fast into the corner will always cause understeer..."overcooking" the corner.

I currently run 225 / 50 / 16 Bridgestone S-03 Pole Positions in all 4 corners of my FC making about 200hp at the wheels.
The suspension is "built".
The car is an absolute blast to drive, cause it's very close to neutral.
I can get the car to rotate almost at will.
The car is really balance right now.
Blasting into the corner way too fast will cause me to drive into the bushes, period.
I would think I would have a lot more control than to be doing that.

FRONT: 17x8 with 25mm offset will they stick out too far with such a small offset? what tire size could i go with that? should i try to get a bigger offset so it has a better tucked look?

Rear: 17x9 35 mm offset what kind of tire sizes can i go with this?

Also anyone know what the stock offset is on 16x8.5 300zx turbo rims are i have thoese now but i dont know the offset

I was thinking a wider rear tire would help with keeping the rear-end from sliding out when cornering with the power I plan to put down (and also off-the-line traction). I am looking at about 420-450 at the wheels under my plan so far. It seems like 275 might be a bit much for what I'm looking to achieve at this time. I'll look into a 265 width in the rear and a 245 (if it will fit easily enough) in the front. That might be

I want this car to be an open road racer when I can find a good solution for gearing. For now it will be an autox/strip project. I'm not looking to compete right now, just learn as much as I can and improve my technique.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Please correct me where I am wrong on anything-I'm here to learn.

correct me if i'm wrong, but....
245's on stock TII rims and 5mm spacer would bring the offset to ~37mm right? this fits nearly as close to perfect as i can imagine. and when i hit a HUGE dip in the road, my tire hit the fender lip enough to make a slice at the corner of the tread. so wouldn't an 8" 35-40mm offset fit nearly exactly the same way? any less of an offset and that tire will be all over that fender especially if it's lowered.
it seems that you guys running +15, +25, or even +30mm offsets aught to be having some major issues. but that isn't the case. i'm confused.....

I wouldn't run a 245 wide tire on a 7.0" width rim in the first place.
Most tire manufacturers do not recommend that combination.

Yeah, the tire place had troubles getting them on. The recommended range was 7.5"-9". It didn't hurt anything. Besides, wider is better right? Nah, really though, the rears are still 245/45 and I replaced the fronts with 225/50 last month. Another month and the rear tires will be toast and a pair of 225's will replace them.
Regardless of that, I'm still confused about how all you guys are running very low offsets and not having fender rubbing problems.

Can anyone recommend a flat black wheel? I found some by Flik I liked but they don't have them in 8" or 9" width. 5zigen also has some that are decent but not quite what I am looking for. I like a simple, 5-spoke design. I'm going for a stealth fighter look with the car as I'll probably paint it matte black. Anyone know of any?

im doing the same thing...

got me some wheels in black-chrome, but it isnt black, so im takaing it out for a paint job!
nice wheels with the right sizes in the right color would have cost me 3 times as much as these, but a nice paint job is just 200 bucks or so!
