There are really no defined limits because fitment is different from person to person. For you, the widths you described will work well. As for offsets, as long as they're <+35mm, you should clear the suspension at the very least. As for how much lower than +35mm, there are many solutions depending on what kind of fitment you want.

My head is about to explode!

All I want is 17" rims with 255/40/17 tires on the back and 225/45/17 on the front for my 89 convertible. I've spent two days on this thread and I'm still not sure what width the rims need to be (9.5 for the rear? 8 for the front?) and what range of offset will work.

I guess it's the engineer in me that wants to see a chart...

Hi Guys,

Well, my wheels finally arrived and I have done a test fit to see how they look.

I have to say, I am REALLY happy with the widths and offset as they fill the stock gaurds perfectly.

My guards have not been rolled or anything and it is just right.

hopefully this will be my last wheel question...
but i am looking at 16x8 0et.
i have tires already there 245's i also have 30mm wider fenders... will they fit in the front ?
or should i go a bit smaller tire up front...
or buy them in a 16x7 for up front. with a +35 offset..( keep in mind wide fenders ) any opinion ?
with option 2 they will be staggard..?

there the sportmax 002.

About to order new wheels to fill my 30mm wide front and rear fenders from shine. Will this work?

17X9 15mm offset with 255/40 17's on all corners? I dont want a stagered setup, all corners the same. I'm in TEIN coilovers.

probably too wide for the front. shine fendes arent 30mm, more like 15-20.
frijolee has a post somewhere about fitting 255's to shine fenders. i think he was using like +24 or something. i dont remember. try searching for it.

shine makes 30mm rears? wut

Thanks bro! You and several others recommended that and I couldn't be happier w/ the final product!

BF Goodrich G-force sports

235/40/17 front
255/40/17 rear

PERFECT look for what I want. Nice 235 up front and a 255 in the rear. Man she handles AWESOME now! **** I ran 205/50/16's in the same tire forever and LOVED them and now this is just amazing w/ the size gain!

Thanks for throwing that out there too btw!

for those just seeing this... I have 17x8 +35mm fronts, 17x9 +35mm rears w/ the above tire sizes. I did have to run a 3/8" spacer for the wheel and tires up front to clear the coilover simply b/c it's an older design but I'm getting extended lug studs and should be golden after that.

I drive a 10th AE with stock wheels. Can I put a 225/50R16 on the front without rubbing the strut? I wish to buy asap.

So I'm thinking of going with this combo. Let me know what you think.

17x8 +35 on all for corners. 245/40-17's Falken FK452
Think I'll need a spacer up front? Maybe 7-10mm.
Plan on rolling the fenders too. Car is Black.

With these wheels.
Konig Runaway.
Just haven't decided on the color yet.

Black

Grey

I still have some camber in the rear after I lowered it. I put in an adjustable sublink to try and zero it out. It took out some but it's still there. Does the offset matter like lower = less camber? I want to get a much contact as possible for drifting. I'm running a 17x8 +35, 225/45

Picture of wear:

That section in the middle was the most I was using, usually it's only about a 1/3 used up.

delam doesnt really tell you anything about tire wear..
but you'll want like 1 degree max for drifting. any more and that happens ^

FYI:

17 X 8 + 35 with 225/45/17 won't fit on front with coilovers. They rub by I'd say about 2mm.
Either run a 215/45/17 or throw an offset around 30.
