Will the front and rear brake kit work with the factory spare wheel/tire? I'd rather not get stuck somewhere. Thanks

FD RacingBrakes are on the road!

well i did drive my car out of the Build Facility for Coleman Racing (the barn) and it is now resting comfortably in the Paddock Facility of Coleman Racing otherwise known as the garage.

total 3/4 mile logged.

a bit of ride height adj, brake bleeding and alignment check and an 8 a m dental visit and we are ready to roll.

i will have pics today.

BTW, i now really like the RB, er, "red." it turns out actually a bit more subtle than regular red and while it might clash w a few colors it looks nice on my white car.

i will check on the spare tire clearance or lack thereof and post today.

as to OEM wheel compatibility...

i no longer have a set so i won't be able to be of further help. here is what i know:

front.
i mounted an OEM wheel on my M2 AP/Alcon 13 inch by 1.125 front setup and it fit! i was surprised. the RB rotor is 13 X 1.26 inches thick. it is, however, as far inboard as it can be moved. not a MM more so don't ask. so there is a chance that the front might fit.

rear.
i spent time messing w the rear. it will not fit as the outer ribs of the caliper contact the wheel. i did file my caliper... about half of the ribs and as i filed the ribs the wheel slipped over that part of the caliper. my opinion is it might fit if you filed all of the ribs off. it also might not. whether filing off the ribs will significantly weaken the caliper rigidity or would be a safety issue i don't know. the ribs may be there to radiate heat or they may be there to add rigidity.

it is your call.

if i was bent on running OEM wheels i would machine the caliper and give it a go. if it still didn't fit i would junk the caliper and buy another one for $15 in the classifieds and either resell the brakes or switch wheels.

neither RB or i will be able to be of much help here so a bit of pioneering required.

pics today.

here are a couple of pics that show the color in a more natural light. i like it on my car and i like how hard the coating is...

i should be out and about more tomorrow as i did a few miles but had a loose hard-to-get-at cooling hose and still have to set my toe.

maybe i will even wash/and wax it. i did put 4 gallons of methanol in my fuel cell today. first things first.

The red looks better w/o flash. Still though, I really like the grey, and will be changing my order to that if it becomes available (which it looks like it might, based on the unscientific feedback so far )

Agree on both counts. I can't wait to get a set in my hands

To bad the car it's going on is a year out from road readiness.

Thank you for your active participation voting the caliper surface coating process and color, we have received 92% response from pre-order members and here is the result:

Process:
Hard anodizing: 73% (selected)
Hard anodizing w/liquid paint: 15%
Powder coating: 12%
Color:
Black: 38%
Red: 35%
Greenish Gray: 27%
The top two colors are Black and Red (Burgundy Red). This result agrees to our original offer plan. For those who selected greenish gray need to reselect their alternative choice between red and black by Friday 6/15 otherwise their order will be filled based on availability.

Thanks again.

BOO! I was really hoping to get grey. I guess red won't be so bad since my car is black.

How do we do this?

Hi,
I cant find 2 piece standard size discs on the RB web site for front and back, only for the front. They do list replacement rings for the back but with no hats, anyone know if they do indeed sell the option of having 2 piece discs in standard size for front and back?
If so has anyone gone this route and if so with what results?
Many thanks.

You guys should really consider making some paint available to match the red color you're using, if that's what you're going to go with. so folks can match paint their rears. Sounds fussy, but if you care how your car looks, it's a legitimate consideration.

You might be able to find some Testor's model paint to match... I remember folks used to paint their calipers with that stuff BITD, but I wouldn't count on it.

Just wondering about this poll. Is the color distribution result based on all votes or based only on the hard anodized result? If the former, I suspect some of those who voted for red were planning on powdercoating or paint and would reconsider their choice now that hard anodizing is the only finish option. I hate to make this more complicated (but I assume we have the time) but in order to be fair, I think another vote for the hard anodized colors may be in order. Personally, I voted for black anodized so I'm happy.

^The results were based upon the color options posted in his poll in the RB web site. I believe the color choices were clear to all of us. I don't want to open up voting on this again and delay our orders.

I voted anodized black. My grayish rear calipers look black after being coated with brake dust anyway. The anodized red look great on Howard's car but won't look as good on a red car like mine IMO.

I'm really disappointed that grey isn't an option. Is it really too much to ask for a third option? The color portion of anodizing is simply dipping it into the appropriated dye bath.

I'll pay extra if RB would consider it.

RB / Warren,

How do we change our color options on our order? I just tried to update mine for color and wound up with a second BBK in my order rather than an updated order.

I agree on all accounts.

On the color options, I could easily see a case where some people wanted red/red with the powder coating and voted as such.

They however may not want the red anodize color, in which case they would possibly have voted for grey annodize if told they had to select an anodize color... Confusing maybe?

I do agree that it seems like offering 3 colors wouldn't be hard, or offering the grey with an extended lead time would work. ESP since they were so close. But I also understand that they are doing a tremendous service to the rx7 community by offering the setup, and even moreso by doing the intial buy discount that they offered.

All that said, I can live with whatever. I kinda liked the red color since it isn't red-red, but the grey would have stood out from any other kit on the market. I get that it is impossible to please all the people all of the time, so I'm happy to be getting such a good setup for a steal of a price.

On the color change: I just sent Steve at RB an email and stated my color preference.

I highly recommend Folia Tec caliper paint instead. It will hold up much better.

But it is cheaper to dip a lot of parts at once.

I'll pay extra if RB would consider it.
If I was in the market, I would have chosen the gray/green as well. It would save a lot of people from having to paint their rear calipers to match and it's actually quite classy looking.

Obviously since I'm not voting with my wallet my opinion means little, but it does seem that if people were choosing red because they expecting it to be a bright red powdercoat finish, they might change their minds if it was clear that hard anodized finishes were the only option. Black is so... blah.

Indeed it would... but I was doubting that caliper paints come in the candy-red color to match the RB color, hence the Testor's option.

It's of no concern to me at this time... the StopTech's are regular red.

Good point. I don't know how close you're going to come to matching an anodized aluminum finish with paint anyway.

That's why the gray/green option is so attractive. No painting required. For anyone who hasn't done it yet, I can assure you that it sucks unless you have brand new calipers, and even then, it's a pain in the ***.

I'd pay up $50 more to get the grey anodized, if RB will consider it. As was said above, the grey is a unique and very classy finish.

I don't know if they oustource the finish work, or they do it in house, but I think this should just about cover the additional cost of supplies and labor. If others (that initially voted for grey) are willing pay a little more, perhaps we can spread the cost, but I doesn't really matter to me if I shoulder to additional cost by myself.

I realize the desire to streamline production, but since these are parts that are just now being produced, and are not parts limited to just this particular GB (the calipers themselves anyways), it can't really be that much harder. It's also not as if we are asking for a completely different process, such as the powder coat.

That, or is it possible to send my calipers unfinished? I have alot of other parts that I can anodize with it together.

Maybe I'm not being clear. What I'm saying is that since you had to vote on BOTH color and finish, those that voted for a finish other than anodized are skewing the color results for the selected finish (anodized).

Say someone voted for red powdercoat. That vote now counts toward red anodized when that person really doesn't want red if it is the anodized version.

I don't think another 3 day vote is gong to have any significant impact on our delivery date.

It's not like RX7club is the only ones getting brakes done, couldn't they throw it in another batch, i.e. 350z, C6, RX8, etc.
