Brake caliper rebuild?
Brake caliper rebuild?
Have any of you guys had to rebuild the front brake calipers?
How much did it cost? How long did it take?
Is there a good place online to checkout?
One of my rubber pieces is leaking on the piston....Is there an easy fix or do I have to have it rebuilt?

You need FB05-49-240, about $23. I think 1 kit does both sides. It has all the rubber parts and retaining clip.
The job is pretty straight-forward. As usual the FSM is source for all the torques. Don't separate the calipers. The tricky part is getting the pistons out of the calipers without mangling them. Some people use air pressure on the brake line. Some just use a vise grips and a rag (Not recommended.)
Remember to only clean internals with brake fluid.
Bleeder screws get pretty rust, if you want to replace them, B001-33-691, and about $6 per.

I did my fronts, it wasn't too hard. I separated the piston by pressing it most of the way out onto a block of wood using the brake pedal. I recommend washing the caliper as thoroughly as possible before taking it off the car and opening the lines. I bought my parts kit from Mazda.
Rears are more difficult, if you do it consider leaving the parking brake alone. There is a snap ring holding in the parking brake stuff that's deep down in the bore and I think it requires are special tool.

i got a other question i rebuilded my rear calipers but the handbrake doesn't work anymore. i can pull it all the way up but doesn't brake.
there is no fluid in the brake system yet (needs to rebuild front calipers first) , could that be the cause of the problem ?

I had trouble getting all of the pistons out. I ended up going to "Just for Brakes" and they removed them for free - and degreased them in thier parts washer - and gave me a small bottle of assembly lube.
Moral of story is if you have trouble call a brake shop and see how much they would charge to have them removed. $30 would have been well worth the price.
I also bought a set of dental picks - really helped removing the old o-rings.

its an easy job once you get the pistons out-- I wanted mine powdercoated red so I let the shop pop the pistons out.
I then rebuilt them with a kit from Malloy Mazda and wire brushed the logo. piece o cake

think i found my problem ... pistons are moving +- 0.5cm so think they are ok
but brake cable is to long so should i replace all 3 cables ?? or just the one that connects the 2 to the brake calipers

Reverse threaded screw or the proper easy out.
It took me about an hour to clean, polish rebuild and paint my fronts.
All this was stretched out over the course of a few months but i spent a little time here and there when i was bored.....
is ur parking brake not clamping at all or is not clamping tight enough...
idk but i would think if there is no brake fluid in it, that would have to be a part of it...
no clue, everyone says dont do it so i wouldnt risk it.. what benefit is there from taking it apart?
I wish I was driving!

That being said, I've taken them apart, reused the o-rings, reassembled, and then tested the calipers for leaks to 2000 psi on multiple occasions without any issues.
