17x10's all around?
would running 17x10's all around hurt or help my cars handling? also how would my car handle with 275 nitto drags out back and 275 yoko es100's in front?

I've got 18x10s all around. It is harder to find tires that fit well for 17x10s. Lots of people have used 275/40-17 tires on 17x10" wheels all around, but they have a large diameter. Every car I have seen that runs that size has worn through the fender liners.
If you can live with the rubbing, you can get excellent performance with 17x10s and 275/40-17 tires. Remember the black 3rd gen that completely ran away with the title in SCC magazine's G-Games competition? It was running 17x10s all around with Hoosiers.
If you just want drag racing performance, I would go with something skinnier up front. 275/40-17 on 17x10" wheels is no problem in the back, though -- those will fit fine as long as the offset is reasonable. You do have to watch out for hitting the trailing link on the inside, though. Aftermarket trailing links make that less of an issue.

thanks max, i want a very fast street car that will handle with a awd porsche i'm looking at ruing tien flex coilovers, rotary extreme trailing arms, and toe links so i think that will work fine i can tune it soft for the strip and hard for taking turns. and would 275's make that big of a difference then running 255's?

no way if i can fit 10's in the front i'll put them there i want the most rubber i can get on the ground. i'm buying forged wheels so weight doesnt matter.

and PwRFreak, if you want handling lose the drag radials, the sidewalls are too squishy. You'll be running with no porsche if you're running tires made for drag racing.

ya but the r2 nitto's suck for straight line, and i'll sacrifice a little handling with the drag radials for all the straightline acceleration. and the nitto's have more of a side wall then the bfg's so they handle that much better. but thank you for your answer

Didn't like the advice people handed you over at Torquecentral huh? I thought you had your heart set on the 17x11s with the petit fender flares.
Anyhow, as I told you over there, I'm running 17 x 9.5 with 275/40/17 Nitto 555RII's all around. Only moderate rubbing when I've got the column locked to one extreme or the other (meaning when I turn into my driveway).
Don't confuse the 555rs with the R2s. The 555R is a drag radial = sucky handling, while the R2s are a road race/autocross tire, as in not a drag radial. They have a stiffer sidewall. It's a good compromise for somone looking for something sticky that handles well. I don't notice any sacrifice in straightline performance. My car just squats and goes.
The biggest drawback I can see is they're not going to last very long. But they're $161 a piece from discount tire, and the potenza s03s I used to run would cost me about $60 a tire more. That's something I can live with.

For the street, i wouldn't go through the hassle of running 10" front w/ 275/40 tires.
The benefit of that setup is generally seen on the track, in low speed corners and sharp turn-ins. On the street, you have drastically increased tramlining, and fender liner/lip damage. I would recomend ether a 255/40 front tire. If your getting modulars, get a 9" +45 rim, and mount the 255... then use the 10", 275/40 at the rear for extra grip if your making higher horsepower.
Will the 275/40 offer more grip than a 255 rear? Probably. I do know that when I switched from a 245/40 to a 275/40 rear, with everything else being equal (including brand and model of tire, and brand and model of rim) I had SIGNIFICANTLY better straight-line grip, and reduced power-on oversteer.

I think he wants to run 275s all around because that's the smallest size the Nitto 555RII comes in right now?
BTW, I have 9 x 17, 45-mm offset SSR Integral A2s with 255/40-17s all around. See the pic in my sig below.
Pretty much the best compromise for street/track/autocross/drags

well this is an alternative to the 17x11's cause i didnt know the offset with pettit flares, but i now the offset i need now and i'm most likely going to with them and 10's up front. but if the wheels i'm looking at dont go thru i'm going to get 10's all around. thanks for the info on the r2's i'll look into those.
