Unhappy

In 3 weeks there are 14 people interested (not committed by payment, yet) for this event.
That means, an average of 4.5 people have signed per week.
So, if in the next 2 weeks we don't fill the grid, you can kiss this event good by.
Sorry Steve, you know I'm behind this 100%, but the same thing happen a few years ago, lack of interest from the rotary community.
I wonder, if this is out of lack of trust in their builder/tuner or fear of the rotary engine fame for blowing or not interested in tracking at all???

Yeah I completely agree with you baron, not to mention we'd kinda need more than 20 to sign up, cause there's bound to be a couple at least that can't make it or change their mind. Like I said before though, if we don't get enough people then we should at least keep a track thread so we can post the dates we are planning on doing track events. that way those of that do like to track can try to do some of the same ones.

speaking of which, are you still doing the BMW event at MSR next month?

I got a guy on MR2oc that wants to come but says this would be his first track day, would that be ok?

I also agree that not many rotorys seem to track their cars much, i think it has to do with fear of blowing the motor personally. I know thats why i have never tracked any of my RX7's hard, just didn't want to deal with a blown motor, things are not cheap to replace.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it would be fine if it's his first track day. There should be instructors for the event, but I'm sure Steve can confirm that or not. I can't imagine them letting us just all use the track without having instructors to ensure safety.

lol I think people don't realize these engines are stronger than they give them credit for. These cars were built for one purpose only, that's to be on the track. Every single thing on the car including body style was engineered by mazda for performance on the track. As long as you take care of it and watch it carefully it'll be fine. Sure engines blow, but that would happen with any car you take on the track and run hard. Just saying the rotary is stronger than people think it is.

Yeah i was thinking the same just wanted to confirm for him.

I agree that the rotary is stronger then most give them credit and i would have no problem taking them on the track.....20 years and 100k miles ago. But fact is these motors don't age as good as a piston motor so 20 years later the pistons are indeed stronger and less likly to go pop.

I think that is where much of the fear about tracking them comes from. I know that is mine.

The above and the rotary meet being on 5/2 would seem to push this to the 5/9 date...I vote for the 5/9 date also, I hate having too many things happen on one day, event wise.

If he doesn't get the AMOUNT of people he wants for the MSR event, would it be possible to bump up the amount everyone on the list pays to cover it that way?

If we got a date locked in i bet a lot of people would be able to say yes or no for sure 1 way or the other.

5/9 would also work better for me as well, just relized that 5/2 is a birthday i should be at.

Apparently, they have Rotaries just to pose with. LOL

*friendly stab
The silence from that group is a bit curious...not a one of them is on the list to this point. I'll bring it up at the next DFW Cheddar's gathering April 3rd.......................if I make the meet.........

I sticky'd the thread and threw on a green arrow to guide the lost.

I was told we couldn't use the 1.7 because that section is dedicated for the members. We will run the 1.3 that day.

As for the first timer, If my memory serves correctly, what they do is to provide lead and follow for 2 sessions?? and then classes, then run full out in the last 2 sessions. I think it might be just for the novice group but I don't remembered.

Oh man that sucks, I definitely know what you're going through. At least you sometimes get to travel for some of them.

Man Pluto, I wish I could do it this weekend but got autox on sunday. Are you gonna be an instructor for the BMW event next month?

Yes, registered and paid.
It's going to be the 1.7 mile CW configuration, which is a lot of fun.

Alright, I'll probably go ahead and register too then. Will be nice to have a fellow member there so I'm not completely lost and looking like an idiot lol. I haven't been on MSR yet, so hopefully it'll be a good time, at the very least a good learning experience .

Ditto the never being to MSR before ^, part of the reason i really would like this to work out, about the only time i could afford to make it there, can't afford no $300 for a drivers edge event.

So you're going to be sweeping full speed into that rattlesnake complex as a right hand turn? Or did they get rid of that part of the track?

I wonder if I should try to put one of these together down here. would you guys drive to MSR-H to do one. Assuming the price was similar? 100-150 maybe?

I would love to check out MSR-H, but I don't think I'll be able to make the trip down that way till later in the year. It seems we're having enough trouble getting the right amount for one up here, I think we'd run into the same issue down there. I do plan on meeting up with you down there sometime this year though .
