Rx7 track day anyone? Metroplex area...

how many of you are interested in doing a Rx7 track day at MSR Cresson?? There're a few car groups who has been doing this once or twice a year. This will be a good opportunity to stretch your car a little.

If we get enough interest, I will talk to MSR to setup a date.

SCCAITS 02-25-10 07:15 AM

interested

RedBaronII 02-25-10 07:22 AM

Shultz tried a few years ago and there were no takers other than Damon and me.
The crowd here is more into getting together, cruising to a bar and drink.
(nothing wrong with that)
It appears, that they don't want to track for fear of blowing up their engines.
I just signed up with BMWCCA for their event on April 10-11.
If you put something together, let me know, I'm in. :icon_tup:

silent_ninja_8 02-25-10 09:28 AM

Put me down! I've got a full track calendar so far at MSR, autox events, eagles canyon, so hopefully I'll see some of you guys that like to track at some of them. Baron I have that BMW on my list too, I'll try to make that one since you're going to be there. I'm heading down to Road Atlanta next month if anyone is interested in doing the NASA event there, there's gonna be quite a few 7s and 8s.

DrKillJoY 02-25-10 09:29 AM

Maybe we should do one at MSR Houston. :D

I might know someone who works there.

silent_ninja_8 02-25-10 09:57 AM

I've heard that's a great track. I'll have to make my way down there one of these days and try it out :)

DrKillJoY 02-25-10 10:00 AM

Let me know if you come down. I'm part of the team down there, generally work track safety.

pluto 02-25-10 11:29 AM

okay, so 20 people is the minimum. Do we even have that many cars in DFW??

mrb63083 02-25-10 11:34 AM

I'd defiantly go (pay) to watch and hang out. I'd bring the 7, but no track time for me. :)

awesome, definitely will. and pluto, i think there might be that many in the dfw area, but probably not enough that would want to track their cars though. and we don't necessarily have to limit it to rotaries, cause I doubt we'd get enough interest in it for just rotaries. Just like the PCA and BMW clubs, yeah most of the vehicles you'll see there are porsches or bmws but they'll let anyone go with them just to fill slots and get more money.

I have done the BMWCCA DE's for past 3 years.
They are well organized, not so crowded, always have plenty of refreshments, water and snacks (the other clubs offer water only) and they have a Club Race to watch.
Also, not snobish like the P car DE's, but don't tell that to the PCA crowd.

If you register early, before March 1st., you pay $275 instead of $325.
You save $50, plus early bird registration could win you a FREE registration to the DE event.
They have 1 Free spot for each class, so a total of 3 winners.

They will be running the 1.7 CW configuration, which is fun to do.
I have only done it once and even though is slower, it is a lot of fun.

Marshall, no need to pay to go to the track and watch, it's FREE. :icon_tup:

habu2 02-25-10 01:55 PM

I'm interested, but my car is probably 6 to 8 weekends of work away from being back on the road.

mar3 02-25-10 02:12 PM

Count me in as interested. I should have one of the non-stock cars ready to go by Summer. The last time I did this, I had the '83 with a dying clutch and the almighty stock Mazda 95 hp to the rear wheels. It was all about staying off the brakes.

But it was a lot of fun til the clutch started slipping bad.

Great, thanks for the heads up! Sounds like they have a pretty good organization. Maybe you can teach me some stuff then at some of the events since you've been doing it awhile. I've just recently got into the track (started end of last year) and still trying to learn as much as I can. Still consider myself quite the noob in the rotary and track world :P haha.

Anywho back to the topic, at the very least if we're not able to set up an MSR track day, all of us that do like to track need to start sharing our schedules and at least try running some of the same events.

rotorholic 02-25-10 05:00 PM

Is there a track website?

pluto 02-25-10 05:12 PM

Well, I'm an instructor for Thedriversedge and apex driving academy so there's no reason to join other sanction body since I get to run with them for free. I thought it would be cool to get a few of us together for a track day and I don't mind paying for that. If not, I can always see you guys in one of the two events I help out.

pluto 02-25-10 05:14 PM

You can check motorsportranch.com for their track. They also have a calender and links for which weekend is open and rented out to certain groups.

Great pluto, I got a few events with drivers edge and apex on my calendar as well. So I'm sure you'll be instructing me at some point haha.

RedBaronII 02-25-10 06:33 PM

I have done lots of both organizations.
Here is IMHO:
Apex- not crowded at all, 6-7 session in one day, is better for continuity and flow.
You get all of your 20-25 minutes on the track. Not much time between track time, so adrenalin is flowing high.
John plays the tough guy roll well, but is cool and funny.
Other organizations you get cheated (PCA).:icon_tdow
TDE- great group of guys, very crowded track and therefore lots of trains.
Run is over 2 days and lots of time between track time.
Both are well organized and run a good event.
I favor Apex, because is all in 1 day, not crowded and a married man out of the house for the weekend, does not sit well with the wife.

pluto 02-25-10 06:48 PM

LOL!! you just need to tell your wife you need a guys weekend out and that she can name any place for your next vacation!!! As for me, I just needed an excuse to test my car out with the new changes. Last time I took my car out, I spun out twice because my tires couldn't get enough heat.....

7racer 02-25-10 11:22 PM

I'm interested but haven't had time to work on the 7 as it has been perpetually up on jack stands.

If I can't get the car back together can I bring the GT-R?

Texas_Ace 02-25-10 11:23 PM

What kinda price range would we be looking at for MSR? More then i can afford i fear.

If i could not sure if the RX7 would be running, might have to show up in the MR2.

pluto 02-25-10 11:27 PM

The price is $95 for the track day. It's very reasonable. We could however do the eagles canyon. They usually have an appreciation day once a month. not sure what the price is. I need to talk to ken to find out more

Really? that IS reasonable. I was thinking $250 like most track days out there.

Well depending on when this would go down and if my car is ready (both RX7 and MR2 are in differnt states of repair right now) MR2 will be done first though if all goes well and it is the one i would want to take to the track. Would i be hung if i came in a piston powered car lol?

If so i know a few other MR2 drivers that might be interested as well and a few others that might be interested in some cheap track time if you wanted to open it up to other cars. Kinda doubt we would get 20 RX7's honestly.
