Alright gentlemen.. cool those rotories.
Unfortunatly, I will not be able to attend this event this year. We were just at Texas World Speedway a few days ago and will be at Hallett in a few weeks.
As for the price of admission.. check out www.nasatx.com
For a paltry $200, an HPDE entrant gets EIGHT 20 minute sessions over two days, with an instructor riding (if needed). That far and away beats two sessions of open track time for $100 (lead/follow sessions are only good for warming up the fluids..
).
On to the cool stuff... I did sell my '02 Camaro SS to purchase a '92 Camaro for racing in the Camaro Mustang Challenge series (www.camaromustangchallenge.com). I'm currently in 3rd place (of 15) for season points, in my rookie year.
Check out the Spec RX7 class for those that need a little more fun than solo'ing around the track. First gen rx7's running nose to tail/side by side around the track for 20 minutes at a time.
Mario, I have "disposable income" because I don't have to buy kids disposable diapers.
Smack talk - 1:26 around MSR. Who's going faster than that on Sept. 3rd?

Unfortunately, they won't have transponders, so we can only guess how fast we'll be going.
I did manage to turn a 1:32.x at Hallet. Not great, but pretty good for my first time on that track, I thought.
NASA events don't allow convertibles without rollbars. Suck.

Add MSR to the list. Evidently NOW they require roll bars and the top must be up. I know damn well the last time I was there the S2k's and Miatas weren't doing that. My theory is that the insurance companies are cracking down on them like they did the high speed DE groups. It wouldn't irk me so much if they would have mentioned that the first time I asked about it.
Their webpage:
A) States explicitly under the "Procedures" section: "Rollbars/cages and fire systems are required for all cars except the streetcar class"
B) Has GD'ed pics of S2000's WITHOUT rollbars.
GD'it!
I really wanted to run out there.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to happen. With Umrswimr having to drop out that knocks us back to 10 paid folk with really only a day or two left before I have to commit to it. The club just can't come up with the extra $1,000 to pay for it. The only way I see it happening is if my mailbox is swarmed with checks tomorrow. Chances of that happening are pretty much nil.
That said, I'll start working on another cordinated event or perhaps see about getting a group discount with either NASA or Driver's Edge. This royally pisses me the heck off. Almost as much as the no talent *** clown in the Honduh that ruined the original Cheddars meets by shooting someone.

Well that really ROYALY SUCKS!!!!
Tim takes the time and effort to put something together and the RX7 "crowd" here, can't come up with the $100 or the amount of people to make this event happen.
I mean, is it the Labor Day weekend???
Is it the $100 dollars???
The distant track???
Are the "cruisers" afraid to put their skills into action on a close circuit???
Is it because, it's a day time event???
Is it because, their is no drinking involved???
I think all of the above.
Tim, thank you for your time and effort.
Tear my check and see if we can do something with another car club, that has more enthusiasm.
I like the DE idea.
Check with the local Honda Club.

It is a shame, though.I was thinking that all the participants could've rolled to Cheddar's for the monthly meet in one long caravan and shown up en masse to join the rotorheads already there.
BTW, I'd say it was definitely the beer factor, but that wasn't my reason this time around...I'm thinking Tim is going to get more exclusivety with a NASA-affiliated event. It might cost more, but it'll be worth it if I read SSixpeed's post correctly.

How about a Hallett trip in the spring? I KNOW they don't require rollbars up there.

If we can't get 20 cars for a local track I can't imagine getting 20 for a track farther away.
I'm definately bummed too if we truely have to cancel, I was really looking forward to it. I haven't done nearly enough driving the RX this summer.
I have been to most meets this year except for 2 and you don't get close to 20 RX's, not even including the RX8's when they show up in full force (about 6 or 7).
You see most of the time:
3 third gen max(Gilbert, Mike and me)
3 second gen
3 first gen
.....and that is on a good night , not including the "cruisers"(which I still have to see on a meet).

I ran 1:22 in my red car a few years ago when they first opened. That was with hawk blues and hooseir tires though.
My best on street tires was around 1:26-1:27. It was done by Andy B's supra and Eric Michelle's silver's rx7.
