Wastegate and IC Piping Questions....

I just finished my single install and I'm having a few problems.

First, Tial wastege 40mm. The spring in it is 13psi.... however the damn thing keeps going past 15psi... it actually got to 20 for a second before i let off.
Now maybe i connected the vacuum hoses wrong or something with the damn boost controller.... Does anyone have any info on how to hook up the wastegate with and without boost controller.

The way i have it connected right now is... From the lower nipple on the wastegate i got it going to UIM... from the top nipple on the wastegate i got it going to the out of the Profec B, and From Profec B In i got it going to IC Pipe.

The only damn thing i forgot to do (i'm thinking about this as I type) I forgot to set the jumbers on the Profec. However I don't think it should matter much, because with it off, it still goes past 15psi.

Intercooler pipe... Where do you guys get a intercooler pipe going from turbo to the IC? I have a greddy 2 row, and i tried modifiying the piping i had to meet it up. However at 15psi the damn pipe blows off the coupler... with a loud bang.

Anyway if anyone has a nice pipe that would fit me... i need it ASAP.

Thanks a lot.

You should call Ron and ask him these questions........ he can make you a pipe too or you can make a lip on each side of the pipe with some pliers. Just roll the lips.

Unhook the hose from the top of the wastegate (the one that goes to the Profec) and see what happens. Leave that port on the wastegate open (do not cap it). That should run it at "spring pressure".

It was around 4000 or so... i got to look at the log. My engine is street ported by the way and everything happend so quickly i can't be sure what rpm it really was.

I think i know what the problem with the wastegate is... Idiot as i can be sometimes, when i'm really excited... i fogot to lower the damn setting on the Profec B. At around 12 o'clock on the Profec low ****, that's where i used to hit 15psi with Stock twins. I forgot to lower that damn thing down... so imagine this... all the way down on low setting it should be spring pressure 13psi, around 12 o'clock... who knows... I'm just lucky the IC pipe blew off.

It feels great... I'm really trying not to boost it a lot because the damn wastegate is still uncontrollable... I get 15psi pretty quickly and it looks like that's where it wants to stay, but the car is not tuned yet, so i'm letting off, just when it starts to pull really hard.

I still don't get what is going on with the damn wastegate. I thought it was the way i had boost controller hooked up and i even changed the dip switches on the back of the unit to External wastegate... and still it's not staying at 13psi. Maybe i have to set the switches to External wastegate when overboost occurs and then see... The only problem is with the boost controller off, it still goes to 15psi.

Anybody has any ideas? The Wastegate came with .9bar spring so that should be around 13psi and it really shouldn't spike. I can tell that the thing is opening around 13-14psi because it starts to sound like crazy as it's venting out, but it seems like even when it's venting out, it's still building boost....

Have you tried this? Try to get a nipple on the turbo itself...then you will have a little bit lower MAX boost due to the pressure drop your UIM sees from the IC and piping.

oh, I just re-read your post...so you can hold boost with the controller on?

Amel,

Have you tried what Max Cooper suggested with the Profec B off?

I am running the .8 bar spring on the Tial wastegate and thwe Profec B Spec II.

I have a line running from the side of my wastegate to the ic pipe. It is t'd with the nc port of the solenoid.

The other line goes from the top of the wategate to the com side of the solenoid.

maybes hes boost creepin a little if his wastegates too small? since he is running a big *** turbo and does hear it open, but keeps going up? no?

maybe not, my friend was having a similar problme with his af61, he boost creepds up to 18psi when hes only running a 14psi spring. so he went ahead and bought a 50mm wastegate.
