which turbo t-61 or gt35r?

i want 400whp on stock ports, i wish i obtain this number @15-16 psi to protect by engine. i am in between a t-61 or gt35r
the t-61 has a 0.96 exhaust and 0.70 compresor
the gt35r has a 0.63 exhaust and 0.70 compresor

the car will be use for mainly street and some drag racing. i know the gt35r will spool quicker but how much quicker? can i address some lag of the t-61 with tunning?

which turbo is better to achieve my goal?

you would need the T4 GT35R. The GT35 you are currently looking at is for a 4 cylinder. A-spec does have a T3 GT35R kit but I think it's got a bigger hotside than that.

Thumbs down

I cant comment on T61 personally, however down here in RSA everyone puts either the T57 or a T61...i went against the grain and my tuners recommendation and imported a GT35R from Rx7store..and so far everyone reckons its a great turbo for street and a bit of track and drag..a-specs 500R kit sounds like the pick of the litter if prepared to spend a bit extra...
My two cents from africa

If you go GT35R, look at A-Specs kits.
I chose their GT35R T3 1.06 with a short manifold in order to be able to keep the stock air pump and pass TX emmisions testing, which I do!
At the time they did not have the T4 or 500 versions available. Otherwise, I would have got one of those if a short manifold was available.

It is a great turbo and reaches full boost between 3500-4000 depending on boost level on almost stock ports.

a friend of mine has a T4 T-61 on his B20 (Cr-v motor with GS-R head) Integra and struggles to spool it under 5k... but that's a 4 banger I guess.

recently i am between a t04r or a gt35r both with 0.84 exhaust. turbo would probably be non ball bearing because of lower cost. i would used a divided manifold and divided flange to spool quicker. Aiming for 400whp for mainly street use. any inputs?

my suggestion is to be patient and buy any of the kits you mentioned on the forum so you get a great deal to save some money. to4r,35r or t61 should get you 350-375whp on stock ports with good tuning. thats a ton of power on these cars.

huge difference between GT35R and T04R's compressor wheels. The GT35R is 61mm inducer 82 mm exducer, 56 trim. T04R is 67mm inducer, 84 mm exducer, 64 trim. The T04Z is the ball bearing version of the T04R.

i just recently tuned a car to 481whp @ 20psi on a standard garret T61. for the money it's a great turbo!

gt35r is also the jam tho as well. you can't go wrong either way!!!

I was going to go t-61 so I looked up tons of info on the boards about it ( I know this isn't the best thing to do but it certainly gave me a starting point ). From what everyone said a t-61 is a GREAT street turbo and it was easily their favorite. At the boost you're looking for, both will give you the power but A) the hotside on the t61 is the better choice for a rotary and B) the t61 is a great price for a proven setup, maybe not gt35r quick spooling, but definitely will get you the power and the extra breathing for your car through the bigger hot side is better for a rotary.

I opted to get out of the t61 game when I realized I was looking for more power than what the t61 or gt35 had to offer. I'm now going t70 and almost completed with dyno results

there is a t60-1 and a t-61, some people make the mistake of thinking they are the same turbo, which they are not. I haven't seen much experience of the t-61, but the t60-1 is very popular. on stock ports it probably wouldnt quite reach 400 rwhp but it would come close. The t-61 would probably flow enough for 400 but i havent found really anyone running that turbo. The gt35r with a .63 housing is too small. The gt35 with a larger housing is a great street turbo its basically the same as a t60-1 but is dual BB so it spools faster. Larger turbos could get you to 400 @ 15 psi but will spool slower.
