Turbo sizing for a 20b

Ok, I'm ready to make the move this time... I'm trying to honestly pick the turbo for my 20b project.

This car will be a street car, mind you, a freakin' hellacious streetcar.... but a streetcar none the less.

Off the bat, I'm only going to run low boost so that I can maintain my stock serious 5 transmission... A synchro tranny or maybe an HKS dog box is in the works for next winter (MONEY!!!!!). Other projects for next year include a KAAZ rearend and chromoly axels... maybe some more, but I haven't decided.

Ok, this is what I"m thinking (with a bit of input from Crispeed, Thanks!). T-76 with a 1.3 undivded a/r, q-trim exhaust wheel. I don't know what size the inake should be.

I really don't have any rwhp goals in mind, I just want ONE BADASS STREET FC!!!! Once I get the new tranny, I will be running 15psi (but not every day, obviously...)

So, what size wastegate should I go with? What is the exhaust compressor outlet size on this turbo? What is the Intake compresser size? (4" in the front, 3" in the back? I really have no clue here...)

I'm ready to move on this within 2 weeks, so I need to make decisions NOW!!!!

Also, anyone that can get me this turbo for a decent price, please email me at kurgan@darkcloud.org... The only other thing I want (option wise on the turbo) is a polished compressor housing...

Thanks a lot guys!

So you are building it for drag racing?

What will be your redline?

T76 with a HKS 60 or 65mm wastegate will be fine for decent street use.

Nope, not for drag really... I just want the baddest daily driven FC in the states... I don't think that I'm going to be putting a rollcage in this year, so I really don't care about drag racing...

I won't be taking the engine over 8000, 8500 at the most... I'm going to be using the stock Eccentric Shaft.

Come on gurus!!!! Make some recomendations.... I've been hearing a lot about this T51r, but don't know too much about it.

I'm wide open for suggestions at this time, but the decision needs to be made soon!

This car is not going to be a drag only car, or a race only car... I will drive it on the weekends, and on nice days too and from work. I want CRAZY rwhp, I'm talking in the 600+ range at 15-20 psi (of course, I won't be running that kind of boost just putting around, but I DO want the power to be there with a flip of the AVC-r... (of course, after I get a different tranny, but thats down the line a bit...)

low boost for now, big potential for later...

Help a brotha' out!!!

Keep in mind these guys are referring to kits which I do not believe are offered for a 20B motor.

T-66 seems to work well with a 20B from what I have heard.

If you need a Tial 46mm wastegate let me know. I have changed paths on my car and will be selling mine. It is brand new and has all the parts still in the box.

Myself and a mate are in the middle of building a full on series 6 20B streeter, and we just ordered the turbo. After alot of talks etc etc we went for a Garrett GT42. This is one of the new generation Garretts with the new impellers and full BB center. They are not cheap but holey **** it will make some power. Specs are 1.5 divided ex housing (they only do split pulse at this stage so we had no choice) and i think a .7 cover.
Have a look at www.egarrett.com as they have the specs there.
We are aiming for about 700Hp at the treads easy.

Those Garrett diesel maps have always confused me. For example, I'm only reading about 310kW (415bhp) for that GT42. What am I missing here?

FFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTT!!!!

Dont even worry about those maps, they are way off. The GT3540 is rated at bugger all HP but i have mates making 450RWHP (dyno dynamics) on a 13B with one of them with plenty left in it. Take those charts with a grain of salt, as they dont really show you the potential of it in the "real world".
