You can put the valve and the seat together and make sure that the valve will actually touch the seat when things are together. There are a fair number of questions on here about the order in which the wastegate valve, seat, gasket, and flange go together, so it might just be that yours is not assembled correctly.

EDIT: I went and looked at a picture of the wastegate on turbonetics.com. it looks like the valve seats against the body of the housing, so it is probably not just an assembly error. However, I am still curious -- if you remove the wastegate from the car, is it clear that the valve can close by being pressed into a valve seat (either built into the WG housing or a separate piece)?

Didn't notice your response. I removed the upper WG body and yes I could push it till at least it did not move any further. Of course it was still attached to the car. Its mad work taking it off as far as clearance goes since the HKS flange was modified to fit.

Well, it sounds like you found your problem and that it was the turbo.

My question was really "does your wastegate close?". It should be closed (valve firmly seated) until you make some boost and open it. People ask about how to install wastegates every once in a while and they are often confused about that, so I thought I'd ask.

LOL. ya I thought way to much on this WG stuff. It was hooked up correctly from the beginning and apparently it works.

All this boost problems spikes and slow response is probable due to the turbine binding etc. Confusing the boost controller.

thanks max for all your help.

I bought the turbo almost 2 years ago. Money and installation took me over a year to install it etc. They only cover one year warranty.

Sending the turbo back right now would cost to much money. Shipping would be like 100 back and forth and $350us approx repair.
