s366?
s366?
Hi I want to be making around 450hp on my 93 rx7 the engine is done and I want to use the car as a street car but I was looking at the prices of the turbos and they are a lot cheaper then say like a s362 or s363 so my question is if I used like a .88 or a .91 a/r rear housing what would the lag be like on a s366 turbo. Btw I do want to build this car up for the potential of more power in the future
Thanks
Richard
Thanks

i have s366 with the 91ar. I do love it but I there could be a little more room for response. For my application I think the s362 would have done what I am asking the 366 to do but with more low end. I don't have a dyno in my area so I have not idea what hp level I am running. I run between 15-18 psi. I would probably need more boost with the smaller turbo to get the same results. But would probably have a more pleasant power curve.
Well to start off the better choice for spool is the divided 91 a/r vs the 88a/r undivided. Divided manifolds and turbine housing improve spool and reduce lag. That's the reason Mazda went with divided manifold and turbine housings.
The Borg Warner s366 is a great turbo but its not efficient for 400-450whp. The s366 turbo is more efficient for ported motors and higher boost 18+. The s366 is capable of 550whp. I know you will be better with a s362 or s363 if you're worried about spool. Precision or the new Borg Warner efr turbo seem to be more of a popular choice now and days.
The good thing about the s366 is its reasonable priced over the rest of its competition. I currently have one on my car and it sounds awesome. But if you're not pushing enough boost I can see another rx7 with a smaller efficient gt35r out performing you.

I have a S366 .91, it's a little laggy but once it's hits, it rips. If you have the wallet and want spool then EFR, else go with the S362/363. GL!
