Oil and water cooled or just oil???

Hey guys, Ive been looking at new turbos and I was wondering if oil cooling alone is enough for the long run. I have a TII and the additional cooling from the antifreeze seems better than just oil. I plan on running synthetic oil after I disable the OMP and run premix.

How many of you have a turbo setup that is just oil cooled? Is it sufficient? Have you noticed the oil getting dirty sooner than your stock setup? Thanks guys.

And yes I will have MANY more mods to support a big turbo than listed in my sig!

I have a road race TII. I have an oil and water cooled TO4. With a huge griffin radiator, and two stock oil coolers my water and oil temps are equal when racing. I believe the additional cooling the water provides will improve the longevity of the turbo, as well as reduce the thermal load on your oil. If your cooling system is well balanced there are only positives to water cooled. Carl Byck

I have a wet and dry chra TO4B

I believe it extends the live of the turbo and is better for street use.

take a look at these graphs from chrysler engineering research when they were developing their original 2.2 turbo.

i think the choice is clear...

Those graphs are interesting, peejay. Thanks for posting them. Now I am a bit worried about my oil-only turbo.
