Need help on routing my coolant and oil lines for my turbo

Looking from the bottom up, you can see where I circled I'm having some fitment issues. Is it okay for me to loosen the bolts to rotate it slightly so the connector doesn't get in the way?

Do I need a gasket between Oil2a and Oil2b? Also, it doesn't perfectly align up. Is it okay to bend it and force it to fit?

Does Coolant1a connect to where Coolant1b is showing? I can remove the rubber coolant hose and just attach the stainless steel hose to the housing, correct?

Hello everyone, I'm finally beginning to build my single turbo setup but need help with where to connect the various oil and coolant lines.

I've provided pics for you to see to tell me if I'm doing it right.

Here's a base picture for reference.

hey man...ok for the first pic I think you might be able to clock the turbo a tweak that will move that fastening bolt away enough to allow you to run your line,
as for a gasket..yes I would definitely run one...you dont want oil leaks....silicone is a no no....although I have used a product called RIGHT STUFF and it is awsome..oil and heat dont affect it at all...I have put race engine pans on with no gasket using that and never had a drop leak......
the water lines I am thinking you could just replace with what your using, make sure you run them in order...so you dont starve for coolant..not too sure how they run though ....
hope i am ok with my info here and it helps you out
good luck with your build

ohh yea ont eh one you asked about bending..i would not do that you will kink lines....I was using those hydraulic high pressure fitting too but went away from it since..the collar on them are soo ling they dont allow for much movement in tight areas....you better off there just getting sone slip fit AN ends and run the black braided line on those...get rid of the long collar stuff you have more room to allow for some flex in hose

Do you put on a gasket between the exhaust manifold and turbo?

definitely ... you can get a good steel gasket for about 10 to 15 bucks....
but dont just bolt turbo to mani without any..a leak there will cause you to loose exhaust pressure thus loose boost or delay spool up.........
key to good turbo is a well sealed system on both hot and cold sides...

Thanks

www.atpturbo.com has lot so gaskets, fittings etc.

That single is going to make a boatload of heat, so I'd recommend heat sleeving everything, look up the DEI fire sleeves on www.summitracing.com. The oil feed and coolant feed/return take the 5/8th size IIRC.

Get an oem gasket for that oil return.

^^^

Thanks for the help. It is 5/8". I had a heck of a time finding the right bolts to match up thinking the whole time it was metric. I eventually took the turbo off the manifold and took it to the store to find the right bolt that would fit and eventually had to go SAE to find it.

I had a couple more questions.

A) Is the black braided stainless steel too?
B) By getting the fire sleeves will it not let the stainless rub through it if it's rubbing against something?
C) Will stainless eventually rub away aluminum if it touches it?

I'm trying to figure out my hose routing and it looks like one of the coolant hoses for the turbo will rub against the side of the secondary rail which is aluminum. I'm concerned about that.

Thanks again.

Mike

u might want to encapsulate that hose maybe just a cut peice of rubber hose over it with zip ties...just where it rubs

Thanks ziig. I purchased a bunch of fireproof sleeve from bakerprecision.com and ordered more fittings and hose.

What did you use to crimp the hose ends? Do you know if the weatherpack crimper will handle crimping the hose end fittings?

Thanks

i have a buddy that works aat a local industrial hose place..I get all my fittings and hose from him and he does all the crimping to my specs...I even get braided **** from him cheap...they have a massive hydraulic machine that is soo cool...only thing i dont like about there stuff is the bigger stuff like 8 AN has much longer sleeves than regular AN fiitings so space is a bit of an issue when fitting hoses in tight spaces...

I found a youtube video on how to do the hose ends. It looks pretty straight forward; just need the practice. Good thing I bought extra hose.
