Name this turbo &/or its capabilities. T04S?

So, since I'm still waiting on my pillow ***** to be shipped I have nothing to do but twiddle my thumbs and figure out more things out about my car/build. I know you guys know more then I will ever about turbos so I would like you to help me out here.

When I bought the car I was told it had a Garrett T04s single turbo. After fully dissasembling the car and realizing how much was wrong and poorly done I started to become skeptical of just about everything on the car. What I do know about the turbo if it has a .70 a/r compressor and .96 a/r turbine.

I will be looking to make between 350 and 400 streetable horsepower. My mods will be as follow:
Power FC
RB dual tip
3" downpipe back catless exhaust
HKS Twinpower
Water injection
car is supposed to have a supra pump
Porting is a possibility
Please recomend fuel injector sizes and WG size (HKS flange on manifold)

I am sure you will need more info to help properly help me out so I will answer question the best I can.
Thanks for your time and I greatly appreciate your comments

Unbolt compressor and turbine housings, and measure the inducer and exducer on both wheels. Covers tell you nothing about the turbo, only wheel sizes will give you an idea.

I have never done anything like that before. Are there any gaskets or torque specs I have to worry about when I put the housings back on?

I used to run a T04S. My eyes could be deceiving me but I bet that really is one. It appears to have a 7 blade compressor, and a 60-1 is always a 7 blade. Turbine wheel looks like a P trim but I've never counted the blades before. .96 is very common turbine housing for a p trim.

Is this a cast manifold? If it's stainless, cut the flange off and weld on a v band 44mm. older 4 bolt designs are a pain. Banzai Racing has an adapter for HKS flange to Vband but they're not cheap

Thanks arghx, you are giving me some hope about some things on this car. Turbo also seems like it is in great shape, no shaft play. Do you have any ideas on its capabilities?

The manifold is stainless so welding a new flange on shouldn't be a big deal, that flange made getting the downpipe off an hour ordeal anyway. What brand would you recommend?

Usually there is an o-ring around the compressor backplate, but it usually stays in place. You could probably get away without measuring the exhaust side, being that it's a 0.96 divided and 11-blades, there are good odds it's a p-trim. If you want to skimp on time, try just measuring the inducer on the compressor side with the housing still on it, it'll give you a good idea of power capability.

there is actually an old thread about it in the single turbo archive iirc. If you have a divided manifold you really should run a divided turbine housing for improved spool. It makes a noticeable difference in part throttle torque and response during highway cruising. It's like the GT3574 turbo aspec sells except it has a bit smaller compressor wheel that is designed for lower pressure ratios.

Anything that will bolt up to a typical 44mm flange except ebay brands and overpriced Japanese brands. I'm not a fan of Synapse products though because I find them unnecessarily complicated.

I wasn't able to get an exact measurement because my calipers weren't long enough but the inducer was roughly 4 inches. I hope i measured the right thing, only one visible part on the compressor side.

If I am feeling daring this weekend I will take the housing off.

Hope this helps, thanks for your help.

This was a total lie, my calipers at work are in inches and my set at home are metric.

It was more like 42mm if I eyeballed it good.

The stock FC turbo is about 44mm in inducer, so I hope that was just a measuring error. A 60-1 as Arghx pointed out has about a 60mm inducer for reference, and is good for up to 500whp.

Maybe you'd be best taking the turbo off, or if you feel comfortable, taking the compressor cover off as it sits and measure.

I will get back out there today and see what I can come up with. I was in a rush and my calipers weren't big enough to actually reach the inducer.

I'd bet money that's a typical T04S.

So I got out the high tec measuring device, a straw, and it measured roughly 50mm give or take 2 because the straw was flat on the ends.

Thanks for the feedback guys I really hope this turbo is legitimite.

Just unbolt the cover; it will take you 2 minutes. Mark across the back of the cover and the backplate with a sharpie so you know how it was oriented, and then you can easily just put it back on. Some use o-rings, some use gaskets, some use nothing but a metal-on-metal seal.
