Question Intake Manifold Porting?

I was wondering how bennificial port matching the intake is. I was thinking about it and it seems that most people, including myself are running around on ported motors but the intakes are not. This seems kind of stupid and i would think also will negate some of the potential gains from the engine porting. Am I correct, or am I not thinking clearly? How can the engine take in more air if the hole that its coming through is still the same size?

Which generation do you have? If it is a 2nd gen. then you have a restrictive afm in the way anyways. On my custom built intake manifold for my 2nd gen turbo, I ported the lower one right at the gasket between it and the upper. I made the holes going into the lower slightly larger than those of the top manifold to help reduce reversion. I'm not sure how much it helps though since I did it at the same time I built the new motor.
