Inline Turbo Oil Feed Filter

Will be setting up my single turbo soon and was looking into inline oil filters for the turbo oil feed.

http://www.petersonfluidsys.com/filter_oil.html - 09-0730 Spraybar Oil Filter -4 AN 60 Micron

Any of you guys have any experience with these. Service intervals, issues, etc.

I have an inline oil filer before the turbo. Not sure of any benefit it provides, but it was cheap and easy:

I use Fram filters specifically to annoy other people.

The filter setup is just a regular remote mount oil filter pedestal made by Trans Dapt. A few dollars in the "domestic" section of the auto parts store. Then a few AN fittings to connect it to the turbo.

That's one way of doing it Aaron. I don't have that much room to play with.

I went ahead and ordered a Peterson 09-0730 Spraybar Oil Filter -4 AN 60 Micron. Will also place a temporary inline pressure sensor to see what the change is from a convetional line to a filtered setup.

Hey Aaron, this might be a stupid question prolly because im new to turbos, but where is the other line going? I know one is the feed line thats going to the turbo and the filter, so is the other going to the oil pan? Also, are you also using the stock location of the oil filter and just using this as a secondary for the turbo?

The other line goes to a bung installed on the oil cooler. This is a 6 port engine with no provision for an oil supply from the front iron, so I get it from the cooler instead.

The stock engine oil filter is still in place. This filter is strictly for the turbo.

ok. So therefore you have nothing tapped into the oil pan at all. I see. That helped alot.

Thanks,

Personaly i see it as a waste of money

If you think your oil filter is insufficient enought that you have to buy a second filter for just your turbo AFTER the oil has already been filtered, id say you have a priority issue

and to play my own devils advocate

Every little bit helps

however, id just buy a duel remote mount and filter ALL the oil twice

Maybe so, but what about an unforunate engine failure; my last one I mushroomed my rear rotor bearing and got bearing material in every orifice and oil line on my motor. Also all filters have a blowby valve and because of that unfiltered oil can potentially get into the motor. I'd rather be safe than sorry, overkill, yes, but then again so is the rest of my build.

Thanks,
Well, the oil drain from the turbo leads to the pan.

Here's an overview of my entire setup:

In my case, the oil source for the turbo is before the engine oil filter.

^ couldn't you have gotten an oil feed source from one of those Racing Beat oil filter pedestels which have tapped NPT ports?

I could have, but when I originally did the install I didn't think of it. The oil cooler had to go to the rad shop to get a leak fixed so I figured I'd have them install a bung at the same time. If I was doing it again, I would either T off of the oil pressure sender, or drill and tap another hole into the pedestal.

You should. You'll be surprised at how little filter is in a fram filter.

Adam, I use a simple finger screen to protect the orifice.

Where did get that? I have a Garret CHRA, so I couldn't do what you did. Thanks for the idea Barry, but I'm going to go ahead with the Peterson filter.

Oh, your new AFR tuner file is a nice update to the original!

Adam try putting your Base Map in it. Then click on the wayward points for the different rows . The Excel program changes the figures as you strighten the curves of rows that improperly cross.
