Hks t51r ball bearing fitment

For the fd 13b, the Hks t51r turbo kit/turbo, does anyone run a ball bearing version? It seems nearly impossible, for the water fitting and lines to the turbo has no clearance room.
with the non ball bearing versions, there are no water fittings and lines required to the turbo. So the clearance and fitment (still quite tight) works.

thanks for any feedback

interesting, i went through my T51 pics, and they are not all water cooled!

i think if you had bought this in a kit, it would have come with banjo bolts and fittings, and then some hose
like this, although you need to verify the size,

You mean they are All not water cooled? The kit I got used came with a non ball bearing t51r. This t51r bb turbo didn’t come with the kit but was just fitted on just to test fit when i discovered this..
no room at all between the frame and the turbo for any water fitting…. Maybe that top piece you linked… but maybe not even that

Plenty of space on the inboard side but yes, you would use banjo fittings in a situation like this. They make extended fittings that have a little length to them and also ones with bends if you need it. Just need to identify the thread pitch on the turbo

its maybe off topic, and i also don't have great pictures; HKS is hard they update their stuff, so there are different versions of things.
also people like to buy they manifold and turbo separate, so there are differences between kits and things that are pieced together.

that being said it looks like there were 4 versions of the T51R
basically SPL vs KAI and then BB or not. the BB versions are for sure water cooled.
the catalog i have, lists the FD kit with just the regular T51R KAI.
part number for the kit was 1103-RZ007, i show the turbo as 1401-RA141

the T04Z is water cooled and they use Banjo fittings and rubber hose, although manifold is different
11003-AZ001, if you search the instructions were on the internet, its kind of helpful

hope that helps! i'm still a little confused

Thanks! Yeah I would find it hard to believe Hks came with a BB t51r with their t51r kit for the fd.
I have the whole kit. But previous owner fit (and it’s super tight) the bigger spl but it is non water cooled version. I have both and wanted to fit the bb version but even w a banjo fitting I feel it’s really close…

so it seems like Hks only had the turbo kit available with the Kai and non bb.. that makes sense..

thanks!

The kit was available with all variants of T51R, Kai vs SPL, BB vs JB doesn't make a difference packaging wise. You have acres of room there with banjo fittings.

have you had or do you have any of these kits? If you see what I’m seeing, it definitely is not acres of room!
I don’t think anyone on here has a bb set up on their fd? Would love to see some pics if so

Just looking at the picture you posted, there is plenty of space for a banjo on the outboard port and enough space on the inboard port for a regular 90* fitting. What space are you referring? There are plenty of people with turbos on their fd that requires water. It may not be THAT turbo and THAT manifold but there is plenty of space. It will fit.

Maybe post a video or pictures from a different angle. From what you've posted so far it in fact does look like an acre of space lol. Show us what you see so we can advise properly

I also dont see where the coolant fitting is too tight either- it lookss like it has as much room as the compressor housing.

A banjo bolt is about an inch and a half and there are even low profile bolt head banjo bolts to make it shorter.

I didnt want to use a banjo fitting, so I bent a tube to fit on my turbo.

Yeah, different manifold and turbo, but it looks like the limit is the compressor housing to me in both examples...

My turbo coolant tubes go to fit up to stock rubber coolant hoses.

Have owned, currently run a watercooled BB turbo on T51R manifold, and have seen more T51Rs on FDs than I can remember. There were so many variants of that turbo (at least 5 different "tags") and manifold that it's difficult to keep track of them all, but any T51R or even T62R will fit without issue.

You're overthinking it. Buy a banjo fitting like FDAUTO posted, secure it with a STEEL banjo bolt, make a hose and enjoy your setup.

Quick search, these are all BB T51R setups on HKS T51R manifolds. Gotta look closely to see the hoses but there are a couple different ways to do it. There are several much more important packaging issues with this setup for serious use, honestly the water lines are as simple as it gets.
