Help Me shop for a new Turbo: HBP 10thae

Well the title pretty much says it. Been around the forums for a long time. Unfortunately, my beloved 10th AE has had to sit unfinished because of 2 tours to Iraq.

My car is kinda all purpose, little bit of everything, but I am trying to find the best turbo suited to my engine, my overall goal is 475+ RWHP(500RWHP Eventually). I built it initially for speed only, but have decided to maintain the AC and all creature comforts, to make it my own personally built supercar. It is street driven, and will only see the drag strip occasionally. I have been out of the scene for too long, and not up to date with all the current forced induction tech.

Just trying to find the best suited turbo to meet my goal.

Specs
S5 Half Bridge by BDC
800CC primaries
1600 CC secondaries
Tial 44 MM wastegate
Custom Stainless Exhaust manifold(equal Runner length)
Haltech Platinum Sport 1000

All the other goodies are in place, I just listed the pertinent information as I am only looking for suggestions for a new turbo

BWs480 bang for the buck. More than what your asking for power wise but the potential will be there in a few months when you get used to 500..

Awfully big turbo for 500whp. We use that turbo for when we want 800whp.

I'd recommend a T04R or T04Z They should squeak you up to 500whp.

As far as new tech goes, theres a bit of buzz around the billet compressor turbos now, precision mainly. Garrett is also offering them now though, but not many results have been seen on the rotarys yet.

Anything in the 67-70mm comp range should get you where you want.

Anwser your phone Sean............ I want to se if you can order me a Spec clutch

I always say bigger as nobody ever is happy with what they get. Its nice to have a turbo that will meet your goals yet have much more in it.

Just my thoughts.

I agree. I Think the S480 is a bit too much though. The top contenders right now are the master power GT42 or the GT45

Max Budget 1500, trying to stay well below that to allow for other projects, combat pay is good, but not that good.
Goal of the turbo is what is originally posted, but I would like to have consistent power throughout the entire powerband(boost preferrably coming on at 3500-4K RPMS all the way to redline). I hate laggy turbos, and im not looking for Top-end only power.

also wanted to add:
my car is set up already for a T4 turbo(has been for a long time) So I looking only for a Bolt on replacement for my Schwitzer oddball turbo I have right now.

Looked at the T04Z, really liked it, but I cant bring myself to spend close to $2K on just the turbo, I refuse.

Right now after doing lots of research im really liking the Master Power T70 .96 A/R undivided. and I like the $600 price tag too.

Zero R, if you got something better at a comparable price(TURBO ONLY, i gots everything else), and give a mil discount, I would appreciate it. email: poindexter10thae@gmail.com

Cheapness=

T70 or Holset HX40

with your setup you should see 500 rwhp when you want to ramp up the boost later.

I think a Borg Warner S366 would be great for your setup. I run the S362 ETT on my HBP REW and love it. Spools quick and pulls hard all the way to redline.

With as many different setups and motors, projects, builds, and parts that I have gone through, I find that the parts that all you forum junkies talk **** about work just fine and make great power.

Go with something like a Precision 6765 or BW S362/S366. Any one of those 3 can make 500whp and be reliable. The Precisions arent as good in journal bearing form, so you may want to steer away from that if you plan to drive the car hard much of the time.

but the Precision ball-bearing turbos are even more expensive than Garrett's...

I don't know what your speaking from, I'm just speaking from experience. But through your money away if you want. It's not mine.

Edit: here's the thing. I think if you buy the masterpower turbo you are taking a gamble and if you are the gambling type and seem to be good at it then by all means, go for it. However I used to be the gambling type till I found out I was no good at it. Good luck with your decision, just don't say I didn't warn you when your turbo breaks at 20psi after about 400 miles or so...
